Kelsey Mulcahy was a devoted spouse, daughter, sister, friend, and educator who passed away at the age of 29 on October 10, 2023. A rare form of leukemia, which she had been battling for over a year, caused her death. She was in her Bristol, England, home with family and friends.
Who was Kelsey Mulcahy?
Kelsey Mulcahy was born in Sydney, Australia, on March 15, 1994. She was John and Karen Mulcahy’s daughter and the sister of Liam and Erin Mulcahy. She grew up in a loving and supportive home and loved to travel, read, dance, and listen to music.
Kelsey earned a degree in teaching from the University of Sydney and went on to work as a primary school teacher. She enjoyed dealing with children and was passionate about assisting them in learning and growing. She was also active in a number of organizations and volunteer projects, including teaching English to refugees and raising donations for cancer research.
In 2018, Kelsey met Joseph Day, a New Zealand TV cameraman, while they were both working in Auckland. They fell in love and moved to Bristol in 2019 to get married. Their wedding was scheduled for 2022, however, it was canceled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
How did Kelsey Mulcahy die?
In September 2022, Kelsey Mulcahy was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) after experiencing fatigue, discoloration, and infections. AML is a form of blood cancer that affects the production of healthy blood cells and the bone marrow. Rare and aggressive disease requiring intensive treatment.
At the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, Kelsey underwent multiple cycles of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. In addition, she participated in a clinical trial for a prospective new drug for AML patients. Throughout her treatment, she remained optimistic and positive despite her illness. Her fiancé, family, friends, colleagues, and physicians also provided her with tremendous support.
Kelsey’s condition deteriorated in October 2023, when she contracted a severe infection that led to organ failure. She was admitted to intensive care, where she fought valiantly until her passing. She passed away without incident on October 10, 2023.

What has Joseph Day said about Kelsey Mulcahy’s death?
The loss of his fiancée, whom he regarded as his “soulmate” and “best friend,” devastated Joseph Day. On October 11, 2023, he paid her a loving tribute on his Facebook page. He stated:
Kelsy, my beautiful daughter, died Sunday morning after a lengthy fight with illness. She was the most amazing person I’d ever met, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have spent the last five years with her. She was my sweetheart, my greatest friend, and everything to me.
Kelsy was really brave and tough during her sickness. She never gave up hope and always wore a smile. Her courage and optimism encouraged me every day. She was also exceedingly generous and nice to everyone she encountered. Her kindness and compassion touched so many people’s lives.
Kelsy was passionate about educating and making a difference in the world. She was enthusiastic about learning and assisting others. She also enjoyed traveling with me and discovering new areas. We enjoyed so many incredible trips together and created so many memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Kelsy was a dream come true for me. We had a lot of ideas for our future together. We were scheduled to marry and have a family the following year. We were meant to grow old together. I can hardly believe she’s gone. I really miss her.

How can people pay tribute to Kelsey Mulcahy?
On October 18, 2023, at 11 a.m., Kelsey Mulcahy’s funeral was conducted at St. Mary’s Redcliffe Church in Bristol. For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be live-streamed. To honor Kelsey’s life, the family has requested that attendees wear vibrant colors.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Leukemia UK, a charity that supports people with blood cancer and funds research for better treatments and cures. Donations can be made electronically or by check.
