In a head-on incident that happened in Iowa on Sunday, June 2, two Minnesotans were deἀd. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Steven York, 74, of Waconia, and Keira Duffy, 16, of Golden Valley, were declared deἀd at the site.

The State Patrol reports that a 37-year-old Minneapolis woman driving a Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Highway 18 in Floyd County “took action to return” to her lane of traffic after crossing the centerline.

The crash report states that York “took evasive action” while operating a westbound Toyota Prius, but the two cars struck head-on.

At the scene, officials pronounced York and Duffy deἀd. A 74-year-old Waconia woman riding in the Prius was flown to a hospital in Iowa, while the Minneapolis woman operating the Cherokee was carried there by ambulance. Investigations into the car crash are still ongoing.

According to an email from Principal Crystal Ballard, Keira Duffy studied at Hopkins High School. This fall, she would have been a senior.

Ballard remembered Keira as a “bright and kind scholar full of great potential and loved by so many,” writing, “It is unimaginable to lose a person so young.”

Ballard added-

“We’d like to unite as a community to support each other through this complicated grieving process. The loss of a scholar impacts us all differently, and I encourage you to remember how Keira brought light and happiness to our lives.”

Monday at 2 p.m., Hopkins High School will host a celebration in Keira’s honor. Save TheCurrentOnline.com to your bookmarks and check back frequently for changes. If you know someone interested in this, please have them forward it to me.
