Kanye West’s Twitter and Instagram accounts were blocked over the weekend, with the social media sites claiming to have removed posts by the rapper that were deemed anti-Semitic by online users.

West, who officially changed his name to Ye last year, was banned from Instagram on Friday by Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc (META.O). He subsequently switched to Twitter, where he posted for the first time in two years on Saturday.

West’s first tweet since 2020 was a hazy snapshot of him singing karaoke with Meta Platforms founder Mark Zuckerberg. According to the tweet: “Take a look at this, Mark. How did you get rid of me on Instagram?”

“You guys have messed with me and tried to blackball anyone who opposes your plan,” West responded. Twitter removed his message, in which he stated that he was not anti-Semitic. A Twitter spokeswoman confirmed on Sunday that his account had likewise been locked.

The move by Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) to lock the performer’s account was notable since billionaire Elon Musk, who has suggested he would purchase Twitter and labels himself a free speech absolutist, had welcomed West’s return to the platform, tweeting: “Welcome back to Twitter, my friend!”

Musk tweeted on Monday evening that he had spoken with West and “explained my concerns about his recent comment, which I think he took to heart.”

West has a history of making odd online posts. He was barred from Instagram earlier this year for 24 hours after directing racial obscenities at comedian Trevor Noah.

Prior to taking to Twitter early Saturday, the rapper’s Instagram account was suspended following a since-removed tweet in which he evoked anti-Semitic tropes, accusing a musician of being controlled by “the Jewish people.”

On Saturday, the business announced that temporary limits on posting, commenting, and messaging on West’s Instagram account had been applied.

The suspension came just days after Adidas (ADSGn.DE) said that it was reviewing its business relationship with West.

According to CNBC, who broke the story first, West had openly criticized Adidas and its CEO and informed the broadcaster that the German company was stealing his ideas. Adidas has been working with West since 2013, according to CNBC.
