Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Divorce

Gypsy Rose Blanchard has announced her separation from her husband. The 32-year-old Blanchard and Ryan Scott Anderson split, as disclosed on Facebook.

Only three months had passed since Blanchard’s release from Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri, where she had spent more than eight years for conspiring to kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, alongside her lover at the time, Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn.

Blanchard made a social media announcement on Thursday.

She wrote on her private Facebook, “People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents home down the bayou. I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find… who I am.”

In July 2022, the pair got married in a private ceremony held in a jailhouse. Prior to her early release in December 2023, Blanchard stated in an interview that she intended to remarry the special education teacher from Louisiana middle schools.

Blanchard expressed her excitement at the moment about moving in with Anderson and beginning their shared life.

She remarked, “I’ve never lived with a man. I grew up with a mom, so I didn’t even grow up with a dad in the house. So, I’m like, ‘I don’t even know what it’s like to live with a man.’” When Blanchard’s mother Dee Dee was discovered dead in June 2015, she was accused of killing her.

Her former boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, also faced charges related to the killing. Following the arrests, it was found that Dee Dee had deceived Gypsy and others into believing her daughter had a long list of childhood ailments while also subjecting Gypsy to useless medical procedures.

It was contended in court that Gypsy was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a type of child abuse in which a caregiver creates or exaggerates a disease in order to elicit compassion.

In 2016, Gypsy entered a guilty plea and received a 10-year prison sentence. Following his trial conviction for first-degree murder in 2019, Godejohn was given a life sentence without the possibility of parole, as previously reported by the Springfield News-Leader, KY3, and KOAM.
