Former Idaho Prosecutor Who Visited Students Murder House Suggests Killer’s Path

Four University of Idaho students were killed on November 13; a former attorney general and lieutenant governor of Idaho who was inside the home says the suspect likely entered through a back door.

In the early morning hours of November 13, between 3 and 4 a.m., in a home on King Road in Moscow, Idaho, police believe that University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were all stabbed multiple times while they slept.

Officials say that the attacker used a “fixed-blade knife” in the attack that killed the four students.

Dave Leroy, who previously held the positions of Ada County Prosecuting Attorney, Attorney General, and Lieutenant Governor of Idaho, told Fox News Digital that he was in that house four years ago.

Leroy said he went to homecoming at the university and was invited to the house where his client’s son was living at the time.

Leroy said that the layout of the house had changed since he had been there.

The house is situated against a hill and has two separate entries, according to Leroy. “A perpetrator would enter a general living room area, a kitchen area, a few bedrooms, and the back of a first floor if they entered the lower level from the parking lot.”

According to reports, the second and third floors of the house, which contain bedrooms and bathrooms, are where it appears that the majority of the killings took place.

If the perpetrator had gotten to the second floor, they would have gone further up the hill, almost to a different section of the house.

Leroy also thinks that the murderer most likely entered the house through the back door based on information that authorities have previously provided about the victims’ locations.

“That would be my guess,” he said, “but I would certainly defer to the police’s investigation.” It’s a logical conclusion, though, given that the murders happened on the upper floors while people on the lower floors were reportedly left alone.

He claimed that if the crimes had been committed on the upper levels, the attacker wouldn’t have needed to go downstairs.

“If they were in the lower level, they would access and exit the upper floor against the higher up on the hill section of the house; it would not be necessary for the killer to go downstair or pass by their bedrooms when the crime was committed,” Leroy explained.

Two of the victims were discovered on the second floor, and the other two victims were discovered on the third floor when officers arrived at the King Road residence around noon on November 13.

At a vigil held in memory of the four victims, Kaylee’s father, Steve Goncalves, said that his daughter and Mogen “died together in the same room, in the same bed.”

“It’s unfortunate and hurts.” However, we are comforted by the beauty of the two of them always being together. It informs us that they were with their best friends in the world. “Like a book,” Goncalves said.
