David A. Arnold died suddenly on Wednesday. He was a comedian and showrunner who was known for his stand-up work and for making and running the Nickelodeon show “That Girl Lay Lay.” He was 54.

In a statement, Arnold’s family said, “It is with great sadness that we confirm that our husband, father, brother, and friend, David A. Arnold, has died too soon.” “David died peacefully at home today, and doctors say that his death was caused by natural causes. Please pray for our family and give us our space right now. We are all shocked and saddened by this loss.

People in the business were shocked by Arnold’s death. He was connected to Kevin Hart, who produced Arnold’s second Netflix stand-up special, “It Ain’t for the Weak,” which came out in July. The special is mostly routines about Arnold’s family life, including fights with his wife and spoiled kids.

It came after his first Netflix stand-up special, “Fat Ballerina,” which came out in 2019. Arnold was part of the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival, which took place at the end of April and beginning of May.

A close friend of Arnold’s, comedian Chris Spencer, said that the comedy world “mourns the loss of one of the best to ever do it.” Spencer also said that Arnold, who was from Cleveland, was “admired by his peers, respected by other veterans, and revered by the young comedians he helped.” His friends in the comedy world will miss him very much.”

Arnold was also the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of Nickelodeon’s live-action comedy “That Girl Lay Lay.” The show is about an avatar who comes to life to help a teenage girl and her friends figure out their lives.

The show, which was made by Will Packer Media, started in September 2021 and was picked up for a second season in January 2022.

In a statement, Nickelodeon said, “We are shocked and very saddened by the sudden death of our dear friend and creative partner, David A. Arnold.” “David was a great storyteller with a wide range of fans, from adults who liked his stand-up to kids and families who watched ‘That Girl Lay Lay,’ the Nickelodeon show he created and ran for us.”

Arnold was on the “Pace Yourself” stand-up tour. He was supposed to do stand-up later this month in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and in early October in Atlanta and Nashville.

Arnold has also written for shows like “The Rickey Smiley Show” on TV One, “The Real Husbands of Hollywood” on BET, and the “Meet the Browns” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” comedies on TBS. He has also written new episodes of “Bigger” on BET+ and “Fuller House” on Netflix.
