Why Did Boy George Go To Jail? His Arrest And Crime Explained

Since his arrival in the jungle, Boy George, real name George Alan O’Dowd, has had his past scrutinized.

Boy George blamed homophobia for being “trolled” online after receiving a cold reception after being announced in the TV show’s lineup.

However, much of his criticism revolves around his wrongful-incarceration conviction.

Why did Boy George go to prison?

Boy George was sentenced to 15 months in prison in 2009 for assaulting Norwegian model Audun Carlsen.

He was found guilty of assault and false imprisonment after handcuffing Carlsen to a radiator and beating him with a metal chain.

Carlsen told the jury that the only way he could get out was to break the fixture, while Boy George tried to explain his actions by saying he was high on cocaine and having a psychotic break.

The singer pleaded not guilty but was found guilty.

Boy George was sentenced to 15 months in prison, but he was released after four months with an ankle monitor for good behavior.

In an interview with Reader’s Digest, Boy George said that his time in prison “changed his life.”

He stated, “I Always Thought Jail Would Kill Me, But It Didn’t.” Somehow, you find the strength.

“I believe I emerged from that situation with some wisdom and knowledge.” “I don’t consider that time in my life to be negative… but I wouldn’t want to go back.”

In an interview with Piers Morgan for Life Stories in 2017, Boy George said he was sorry for what happened and blamed it on his drug use.

“I Put Myself in Prison.” I explained to the cops why I did what I did. I was experiencing a psychotic episode.

“Because I was a drug addict, I can’t say my reasons for doing it were based on anything.” But I was telling the truth. “I’ve Always Defeated the Guy.”

Boy George has remained sober since

Boy George’s victim speaks out

Carlsen, his victim, recently spoke out about Itv’s “hurtful” decision to fire Platform Boy George, whom he refers to as a “monster.”

Carlsen said that in 2007, the singer tied him to a radiator, beat him with a metal chain, and threatened him with a sex toy.

“Had I been a woman and he did what he did, he would never have been given the platform,” Audun told The Mirror. It is unfortunate that large organisations such as ITVS provide him with such a platform.

“I believe that providing him with this type of platform and a record fee sends the wrong message to survivors of violence and abuse and is simply wrong.”

Audun, now 43, has been diagnosed with PTS, has a “permanent back injury,” and has spent a decade in therapy as a result of the abuse.

Despite his conviction and prison sentence, Itv has defended the casting of Boy George.

“This Is A Historic, Spent Conviction That Dates Back 12 Years, And Boy George Has Appeared On Major TV Networks Around The World On Numerous Occasions Over The Last Decade, Including As A Coach For The Voice UK On The BBC And The Voice Australia,” the broadcaster stated.

“George Went To Jail Willingly After Openly Confessing To False Imprisonment During A Psychotic Break 15 Years Ago Whilst In The Middle Of A Well Documented Drug Problem,” Boy George’s Representatives stated.
