After fatally shooting his mother, a 10-year-old Wisconsin boy was charged as an adult with first-degree reckless homicide after explaining to police that he was upset that she wouldn’t let him purchase a virtual reality headset on Amazon.
On November 21 at 6:50 in the morning, in Milwaukee’s 7400 block of North 87th Street, a shooting took place.
The criminal complaint says that one day after his mother died, the boy kept using her Amazon account to buy an Oculus virtual reality headset and even asked his grandmother about the status of his package.
Quiana Mann, his 44-year-old mother, was shot at close range and identified by NBC affiliate WTMJ of Milwaukee The criminal complaint says that the bullet went into her right eye and out of her head through the back of her skull.
According to the complaint, the boy initially told investigators that his mother woke him up at 6 a.m., that he took her gun out of her bedroom, and that he then went to the basement where she was doing laundry. The complaint claimed that the gun “accidentally went off” as he was twirling it around his finger.
According to the complaint, after killing his mother, he went to his 26-year-old sister’s bedroom on the second floor to wake her up. She found their mother dead and dialed 911.
The complaint claimed that the boy later admitted to police that he was not spinning the gun around when he shot his mother.
It said that he acknowledged that “his mother would not permit him to have something from Amazon that he wanted to have.” According to the complaint, he said he did it because she woke him up at 6 a.m. when he usually sleeps until 6:30 a.m. He also said he got his mother’s gun lockbox keys the night before.
The complaint stated that he entered the basement and assumed a shooting position. The complaint stated that the man admitted shooting his mother in the face “when she was approximately three feet away” after she crossed in front of him when he attempted to shoot the wall to “scare her.”
Then, according to the report, he woke up his sister and put the gun in the living room closet.
The boy “admitted to knowing that guns are dangerous and can kill people,” according to the complaint.
