Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairwoman of HCL Technologies, has maintained her title as the richest woman in India, with a 54% increase in her net worth to 84,330 crores in 2021.
She oversaw the largest-ever purchase for the New Delhi-based computer services giant HCL, which supported the acquisition of seven IBM products for $13.740 billion.
The Kotak Private Banking Hurun Leading Wealthy Women List 2021 shows that the total wealth of the top 100 richest women in India increased by 53% to Rs. 4,16,970 crore from Rs. 2,72,540 crore in 2020.
With a net worth of 57,520 crores, Nykaa founder and CEO Falguni Nayar comes in second place behind Malhotra. She is also the richest self-made woman in India and the tenth richest in the entire globe.
Notably, Falguni Nayar spent almost two decades working for the Kotak Mahindra Group before launching Nykaa. In October 2021, her company’s initial public offering (IPO) was conducted, and the shares were priced 82 percent higher than the issue price. Falguni Nayar and her family’s net wealth increased by 963 percent to 57,520 crore in 2021.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the CEO, and founder of Biocon, is listed third. Her estimated net worth is $29,030 crore, although that number fell by 21% in 2021. In February 2022, her business, Biocon Biologics, announced plans to purchase the biosimilar division of Viatris, a U.S. corporation, for $3 billion (Rs 22, 350 crores).
Nilima Motaparthi of Divi’s Laboratories, whose estimated net worth is 28,180 crores, comes in at number 4 on the list. She has been in charge of Divi Laboratories’ corporate finance, investor relations, and material sourcing and procurement departments.
With an estimated net worth of $26,260 crore, Radha Vembu, 69, the sister of Zoho creator Sridhar Vembu, is ranked fifth on the Kotak Private Banking Hurun Leading Wealthy Women list. As Zoho Mail’s product manager, she oversees the business.
With an estimated worth of $24,280 crore, Leena Gandhi Tewari, 65, of USV, a multinational pharmaceutical and biotech business with headquarters in Mumbai, comes in sixth place on the list. Leena, who has donated about 24 crores, largely to the cause of healthcare, is the list’s most philanthropic woman.
The list has new entrants to the tune of almost one-fourth. The total wealth of India’s female wealth creators account for 2% of the country’s nominal GDP. The threshold for the new list is 300 crores, compared to 100 crores for the previous list (2020).
Thermax, energy and environmental company, employees Anu Aga (79) and Meher Pudumjee (56), who is ranked sixth on the list. Anu retired from the Thermax board of directors in 2018 at the age of 76. In 2003, Meher, Anu’s daughter, assumed the leadership of Thermax.
Neha Narkhede, a co-founder of the data streaming business Confluent, is ranked eighth. Her current net worth is 13,380 crore. Confluent saw a 25 percent increase in June 2021 on the NASDAQ, valuing the company at $11.4 billion. Before starting Confluent, Neha, 38, was a software engineer at LinkedIn.
Vandana Lal, executive director of Dr. Lal PathLabs, ranks ninth on the list with a net worth of 6,810 crores. She has just joined the top 10 list. Lal, 65, is in charge of the business’ R&D division.
Currently serving as the MD of Hero FinCorp, Renu Munjal, 67, is ranked tenth on the list with an estimated net worth of $6,620 crore. She manages the group’s charitable endeavors.
