The Song ‘midnights’ By Taylor Swift Breaks Records

According to preliminary reports to Luminate, the album, which was released on October 21, sold more than 1.2 million equivalent album units in the United States during its first three days on sale (through October 23).

More than 955,000 traditional albums have been sold across all available formats (multiple digital album downloads, cds, vinyl and cassette variants). The title’s vinyl LP sales are approaching 500,000.

After three days, Midnight’s Already Has The Largest Overall Week In Terms Of Equivalent Album Units For Any Album Since Swift’s Own Reputation Debuted With 1.238,000 In Its First Week (Chart Dated Dec. 2, 2017).

Midnights Also Has The Highest Album Sales Week Since Reputation’s Debut Week Of 1.216 Million. It was previously reported (on October 22) that Midnights had recorded the greatest sales week for a vinyl album in modern history (Since Luminate Began Tracking Music Sales In 1991).

Additionally, the album’s 20 songs have generated over 284 million on-demand official streams (audio and video combined) in the United States in its first three days. The album’s initial standard release contained 13 songs, and a three-hours-later release of a deluxe edition added seven more.

This amount represents the third-largest streaming week for an album in 2022, based on total streams. Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti had the highest streaming week of the year when it was first released (356.55 million; Chart Dated May 21).

As the tracking week concludes on Thursday, October 27th, it is anticipated that Midnights’ total units, sales, and streaming figures will rise in the coming days. The Set’s Final Sales Number Is Anticipated To Be Announced On Sunday,

October 30, Alongside Its Anticipated Strong Debut On The Billboard 200 Albums Chart (Dated Nov. 4). If Midnights debuts at the top of the Billboard 200, it will be Taylor Swift’s eleventh album to top the chart.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums in the United States based on multimeric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Album sales, track equivalent albums (Tea), and streaming equivalent albums (Sea) are all included in the units.

Each unit represents one album sale, ten individual album tracks sold, 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by album songs. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on Twitter and Instagram.

Previously (October 22):  According to preliminary reports to Luminate, Midnights sold over 800,000 copies on its first day of release in the United States across all formats (Multiple Digital Album Download, CD, Vinyl, and Cassette Variants).

It has already recorded the largest sales week for any album since 2017, is the best-selling album of 2022 to date, and has established a new record for vinyl album sales in a single week.

The best-selling album of 2022 after one day: Midnights’ initial sales total already makes it the year-to-date best-selling album of 2022. Previously, Harry Styles’ Harry’s House was the year-to-date best-selling album in 2022, with 620,000 copies sold through the week ending October 13.

As the tracking week concludes on Thursday, October 27, it is expected that Midnights’ sales will increase in the coming days. The Set’s Final Sales Number Is Anticipated To Be Announced On Sunday, October 30, Alongside Its Anticipated Strong Debut On The Billboard 200 Albums Chart (Dated Nov. 4). If Midnights debuts at the top of the Billboard 200, it will be Taylor Swift’s eleventh album to top the chart.

In the next few days, Luminate will share information about the album’s first streaming activity and track-equivalent activity.

Midnight Records Records The Largest Sales Week For Any Album In The U.S. Since Taylor Swift’s Reputation Debuted In 2017 With 1.216 Million Copies Sold During Its First Week (Ending Nov. 16, 2017).

Additionally, Reputation was the last album to sell more than one million copies in a single week in the United States, a feat that has become increasingly difficult in recent years as consumers transition to consuming music via streaming services. (U.S. album sales decreased annually from 2012 to 2020.)

Since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991, only 23 albums have sold at least 1 million copies in a single week. These albums represent 21 different artists. One of these albums, Adele’s 25, sold more than one million copies in three separate weeks.

Furthermore, Midnights easily surpasses the modern-era record for single-week vinyl album sales in the United States, with over 400,000 copies sold to date.

This is the most successful week for a vinyl album since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991. It surpasses the previous record, set earlier this year when Harry’s House was released on vinyl with 182,000 copies (Week Ending May 26, 2021).
