The entire Marvel schedule is feeling a push today, with the announcement that ‘Blade’ has been put on hold.

Deadpool 3, the long-awaited return of Ryan Reynolds’ titular character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been moved back from September 2024 to November 2024. The change in timeline follows Marvel Studios’ decision to halt production of Blade after its original director, Bassam Tariq, left the film two weeks ago.

While Deadpool 3 has been in the works for a few years, Reynolds officially announced the Merc with a Mouth’s arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe two weeks ago. The statement confirmed Deadpool 3’s release date and that Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as Wolverine, which he last performed in the critically acclaimed Logan. It may seem strange to push back the film’s release date by two weeks, but Marvel Studios is confronting unprecedented hurdles with Blade.

The blade was supposed to begin filming in November, but Tariq’s departure means Marvel Studios will need to hire a new director and possibly revise the script before they can start production. And because Blade stars a busy actor like Mahershala Ali, any delay might have a domino effect because the entire production must work around the star’s schedule. When this is combined with the lengthy post-production time required by any MCU film, it is evident that Blade will not be ready for release on November 3, 2023. However, because the MCU as a whole is linked and Marvel Studios loves to establish release dates years in advance, a change in one movie affects numerous releases.

Deadpool 3 isn’t the only MCU project that has been delayed to make way for Blade. Deadpool 3 will be released on September 6, 2024. As a result, Deadpool 3 has been pushed back to November 8, 2024, the original release date for Fantastic Four, which has now been pushed back to February 14, 2025. The final puzzle piece is Avengers: Secret Wars, which has been pushed back from November 7, 2025, to May 1, 2026. With this announcement, Marvel Studios puts a larger gap between the two next Avengers films, while Avengers: The Kang Dynasty retains its May 2, 2025 release date. The studio also ensures that all of the heroes are prepared for the next major crossover event.

Aside from Wolverine’s MCU debut, little is known about the plot of Deadpool 3. Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds on Free Guy and Netflix’s The Adam Project, directs the film, which was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Leslie Uggams plays Blind Al, Deadpool’s blind housemate, in the threequel.

FAQs

Is Deadpool 3 on the way?

Disney has pushed back the release date of Ryan Reynolds’ highly anticipated Deadpool 3. The third film in the Deadpool franchise was set to be released on September 6, 2024, but it has been pushed back to November 8, 2024.

Is Deadpool a futuristic film?

The events of X-Men: Apocalypse takes place immediately after the “past” segment of Days of Future Past, which occurred in 1973. Deadpool’s plot is set in a pretty modern context (what with cellphones and all), thus it takes place quite sometime after the events we’ve seen so far in the altered chronology.

Deadpool is set in what year?

It is set in 2013 and sees Logan dealing with the aftermath of Jean Grey’s death in X2. Deadpool, the R-rated Marvel Comics adaptation, is only distantly related to the X-Men timeline, but if you want to be a completionist, it takes place in the year it was published 2016.
