While the fight between Luffy and Kaido has only just begun in the One Piece anime series, the battle has already progressed significantly in Eiichiro Oda’s manga series.
Luffy is now powerful enough to demonstrate to the Emperor of the Sea, Kaido, why he is the rightful successor to the King of Pirates. Of course, Kaido will not be defeated this early, but it’s difficult to deny that Luffy’s Gear 5 has surprised him.
As such, it will be fascinating to see how Kaido reacts to Luffy’s attacks in the following chapter.

One Piece Chapter 1047 Summary: The Sky Over the Capital
Warning: Spoilers ahead
Yamato cheers Momonosuke on in Chapter 1047 as he fights to make Flame Clouds to prevent Onigashima from collapsing. However, no of how hard he tries, the clouds will not materialize.
Disappointed, he recalls the last time he saw his mother before traveling into the future. As their castle burnt, Toki persuaded her son to travel 20 years into the future with Kin’emon’s crew.
She had faith in Momo’s ability to re-establish their family’s strength. Momo resisted and sobbed, but Kin’emon reprimanded him.
He explained to him that dishonor is as great a burden as death for a samurai. It is a disgrace to question his mother after she made such a grave decision, and Momo was no longer a child.
Kin’emon appealed to Momonosuke to enable him and the others to fight again, pleading with him to let them die as samurai.
Momo stood there as Kin’emon bowed low in reverence, shaking and sobbing with the rest of the retainers. He brushed away his own tears as he took a step back from his mother.
He stood still for a moment longer before returning his gaze to Toki. He informed her that he was prepared, tears and snot streaming down his cheeks. Momo regains his determination now, convinced that he is failing his mother.
He attempts once more to conjure enough clouds to keep Onigashima from approaching the Flower Capital. The metropolis looms on the horizon, and time is ticking away.
Kaido appears impressed by Luffy’s skill to manipulate lightning on the roof of the Skull Dome. Luffy uses his Gum-Gum Lightning strike to propel the lightning toward Kaido, holding it like a spear.
Kaido leaps to his feet, seizing the opportunity to unleash his own assault. While Luffy is in the air, Kaido slaps him with his kanabo, sending him flying.
Luffy grabs another bolt of lightning and spins around it, gathering momentum. He slingshots himself back toward Kaido, preparing an attack.
Kaido maintains his stance, stating that the Devil Fruit’s skills are insufficient to rule the world. He slams his kanabo against the back of Luffy’s head. His visage crumbles in on itself as Kaido continues, stating that Roger rose to power despite the fact that he had any Devil Fruit abilities.
With another swing, he sends Luffy crashing to the ground. Luffy bounces due to his rubber body, but Kaido attacks once more, declaring that Haki is the only thing capable of overcoming obstacles.
He then launches Luffy into the air with another Destroyer of Death Thunder Bagua strike. Luffy manages to seize him just before he vanishes above the sky.
Kaido swings at Luffy’s arm, attempting to ascertain his location. Kaido knows Luffy is still vulnerable to cutting attacks and attacks him with a Dragon Twister-Demolition Gust. The attack is successful, slashing through Luffy’s body.
The residents of the Flower Capital unleash the sky boats from below. They smile as the lanterns begin to glide upward, each bearing a message.
They are aware that the next day, they will return to a life of slavery, yet they smile and dance in the hope of surviving another year.
Meanwhile, Kaido requests once more that Luffy release him and emerge from the clouds. Luffy becomes scorched and burnt as a result of his breath assault.

Hyogoro and the other samurai inside the Skull Dome are aware that Kaido is losing power as Onigashima begins to crumble. Hyogoro informs them of their condition and inquires as to their preference.
Either Luffy succeeds and Onigashima collapses, trapping everyone, or they survive and Kaido triumphs. Accepting that triumph may mean death, they smile and wish Luffy the best for Wano’s sake. If they perish, as a result, they will rest in the knowledge that their country and families will be spared.
They cheer Luffy on as Kid stands silently watching the situation unfold. When confronted with the fact that they will all perish, Hyogoro simply smiles and replies, “And what’s the problem with that?”
Hamlet and Usopp are still fleeing for their lives in the Basement after being washed away by Raizo’s flood. Orochi is still alive and burning in the Treasure Repository, having been set on fire by Kanjuro’s spirit.
As a result of the island’s shaking, the Sea Prism Stone nail that was securing his powers breaks out, allowing him to reclaim his Devil Fruit abilities. Hiyori can only watch in terror as he transforms into his snake form, pleading with Oden to take Hiyori to Hell with him.
Outside, someone addresses Momonosuke. He and Yamato are taken aback as they notice a huge fist hovering above them. Luffy declares that he is putting a stop to the conflict and asks Momo to transfer the island out of harm’s path.
Yamato believes Luffy is about to punch his way through Onigashima, despite Momo’s protests. Luffy, on the other hand, encourages Momo by stating that he believes in him.
On Sunday, May 8th, the next chapter of One Piece will be available.
