Selma Blair Explained The Ominous Symptom That Led To Her MS Diagnosis

Since revealing her Multiple Sclerosis (MS) diagnosis to the world in October 2018, Selma Blair has not been shy about discussing what it’s like to live with this autoimmune disorder.

In an interview with Town & Country, she disclosed the early MS symptom that alerted her to the fact that something was wrong with her body.

How Did She Get Diagnosed?

In February of 2018, she was scheduled to walk in a Christian Siriano show during New York Fashion Week. On the runway, she noticed that one of her legs had lost sensation. Although she had experienced similar symptoms in the past, she did not believe they were significant. However, this time was different.

Blair told the magazine that he suddenly lost sensation in his left leg while walking on the runway for the fashion show. “However, I was on the runway and wondering what to do.”

Blair shared images from that night on her Instagram page, revealing that her leg was numb at the time. “When I first set foot outside, I couldn’t feel the ground or raise my left leg. My mind was attempting to calculate. As I stunnedly walked the runway, “Blair Contributed To The Caption.”

What Is Multiple Sclerosis?

Blair was diagnosed with MS in August 2018, six months after the runway show. MS is a chronic, progressive illness that affects the central nervous system and disrupts communication between the brain and other parts of the body, causing symptoms such as:

  • Numbness
  • Paralysis
  • Muscle weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty with walking, talking, swallowing, and hearing
  • Vision problems
  • Dizziness
  • Depression
  • Seizures

Even though Blair had thought her symptoms were caused by other things for years, she didn’t find out she had MS until a doctor used an MRI to find lesions on her brain.

The actress announced her diagnosis on Instagram. “I Have a Disability.” I fall sometimes. I frequently lose things. My memory is unclear. And my left side is asking a broken GPS for directions. Alongside a photo of a wardrobe fitting for the Netflix show Another Life, Blair wrote the following:

What Impact Has MS Had On Her Life?

When Blair brought her cane to the Vanity Fair Oscars party in February 2019, she made news. She told Town & Country about the party, “It was obvious, and there was no other choice.” She did need her cane to help her walk, but it wasn’t like any other cane.

It was really ready for the red carpet. Blair’s manicurist put her initials on it with gel polish and jewels.

Blair said, “I hadn’t been on a red carpet in so long, and now I was about to go.” “Since I was told I had cancer, I knew that people might be watching.” “I didn’t know if people would forget about me and if I would be the last person on the red carpet.”

Blair looked amazing on the red carpet, and the glamorous parts of her career (she’s known for her roles in Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, and The Sweetest Thing and has been in ad campaigns for Chanel, Miu Miu, and Gap) are important to her on a deeper level.

What Is Her Approach To The Diagnosis?

She told Town & Country, “I’ve Been Made Up By Some Of The Most Famous Makeup Artists Since I Started Acting, and I’ve Felt So Transformed By Their Makeup That I’ve Truly Become A Different Person.”

“This was a superpower for me, and I mean that literally.” For me, makeup is not trivial. “If anything in my life, even before my diagnosis or challenges, moves the needle for me, it is my beautiful battle paint.”

Blair added, “It does not bother me if my muscles become entangled in a slow brain signal.” “I Want These Words To Emanate From Chanel Gloss-Coated Lips.”

Blair also disclosed that she is “extremely at ease” in her body, which she attributes to “now having a deeper positive connection with it.” She said, “This body and this life fascinate me.” I am honoured and humbled to be an inspiration to others.
