Celine Dion Has Revealed That She Has Been Diagnosed With A Rare Disease. What Exactly Is Stiff Person Syndrome?
Celine posted on Instagram on December 8, 2022, that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome. In the emotional post, Celine says that her spasms are caused by a rare disease that only affects one in a million people.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Stiff Person Syndrome Is A Rare Autoimmune Movement Disorder That Affects The Central Nervous System (The Brain And Spinal Cord).” Also, “People With This Condition First Experience A Stiffening Of Their Trunk Muscles, Followed Over Time By The Development Of Stiffness And Rigidity In The Legs And Other Muscles In The Body.”
The organisation says that “stiff person syndrome can lead to a different posture over time,” which can make it hard to move around.
The Cleveland Clinic also says that people with the disorder need to get treatment on a regular basis to deal with their symptoms.
Celine said that the diagnosis means she has to put off the part of her 2023 tour that was supposed to start in February in Europe.
“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every part of my daily life. Sometimes they make it hard for me to walk, and I can’t sing the way I used to because I can’t use my vocal chords,” Celine said in a tearful Instagram post. “It hurts me to tell you today that this means I won’t be ready to start my tour in Europe again in February.”
Celine said that she has a team of doctors and the support of her children to help her get better.
Celine’s website says that 23 of the European tour dates for 2023 will be moved to 2024. Those who bought tickets for the summer of 2023, from May to July, will get their money back and be told to get in touch with the original sellers.
When Will Celine Dion Perform Again?
After being out of the spotlight for a year, Celine announced in November that she would be making a big comeback. This is great news for her fans.
The singer said that she and Outlander’s Sam Heughan will be in a new movie together, and she’s putting out new music for the project.
Celine posted two shots from the movie on Instagram. One of them was a close-up of her and Sam talking. In the caption, her team wrote, “See you at the movies! Celine is starring alongside @priyankachopra and @sam Heughan and releasing new music for the romantic comedy Love Again (a new title!) coming to theatres May 12 (a new date!). – Team Celine.”
Fans of the singer in Europe will finally get to see her on stage in 2023, which is also good news.
Celine had already said that the new dates for her Courage tour were out and that the European leg would start on February 24 in Prague and go through October.
Even though there is no news yet about the American part of her tour or her shows in Las Vegas, fans of the singer can rest assured that once she has had time to recover, she’ll be back to making a splash on stage like she always has.
