The Washington Commanders put quarterback Carson Wentz on injured reserve on Saturday, ensuring that he will miss at least the next four games while recovering from finger surgery.
Because, On October 13, the Commanders won a game in Chicago, and during the second quarter of that game, Wentz fractured the ring finger of the right hand that he uses for throwing.
He played the rest of the game, sometimes shaking his hand to ease the pain, and said afterward that he was “a little sore.”
After that, He took a flight on Monday to Los Angeles to meet with orthopedist Steven Shin at Cedars-Kerlan-Jobe Sinai’s Surgery Center. And, He had surgery the same day.
Wentz flew back to Northern Virginia after a few days of rehab on one of Commanders owner Daniel Snyder’s private jets.

The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that He wouldn’t be able to play in this Sunday’s home game against the Packers, as well as the road game against the Colts, the home game against the Vikings,

According to information provided by Head Coach Ron Rivera to the media on Friday, Wentz “had a couple of good days” of rehabilitation in Los Angeles.
Still, Rivera added that head athletic trainer Al Bellamy would speak with Wentz’s physician and therapist to understand better where he stands in his recovery.
That conversation led to the conclusion that Wentz would require more time to recover fully. Meanwhile, Taylor Heinicke will start at quarterback for the Commanders, with Sam Howell serving as his backup.
Heinicke’s record as a starting quarterback is 7-9, and he has completed 64.6% of his passes for 3,886 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 18 picks. Heinicke was named the starter against the Green Bay Packers in Week 7 earlier this week.
Tuesday, Rivera stated, “I believe that because of our familiarity and the things that we do, the transition will be simple for us.” “I also think that Taylor has the ability to run the ball. He has some of that in him, so it should be interesting. The things we’ll do will fit his skills perfectly.”
So, Washington has already selected Taylor Heinicke to start while Wentz is out. Last season, Heinicke started 15 games here and won seven of them.
After Wentz’s 2-4 start to the season, he now gets another chance to lead the team and try to get them to a winning record. So, In his absence, Taylor Heinicke will start for the Commanders.
