Last night, Barcelona returned to the Champions League with a 5-1 win over Viktoria Plzen. Camp Nou was buzzing, and the club is almost unrecognizable from last year.

Barcelona showed signs of defensive looseness, which may worry Xavi Hernandez. Other than that, Sergi Roberto was taken off at halftime with a thigh injury.

After the match, however, the captain told Diario AS it wasn’t anything to worry about. “I had some discomfort in my adductor, but it’s nothing serious. We’ll look at it tomorrow, but it’s nothing to worry about.”

Last season, Roberto was injured for most of it. A team looking to turn over a new leaf this season questioned his usefulness without him. When asked about it, he addressed the issue.

“I have always been professional and put the team and the club first. In the end, things were revealed that were not true. I stayed away from it, respecting [others’] opinions. This is a club with a lot of responsibilities. I am always available to provide what the manager or the club needs.”

“Last year, I experienced a great deal of difficulty as a result of my surgery. I am here to work, and return trust, and I am eager for this season. The fans look excited to me.”

The match against Plzen marked Roberto’s first start of the season as a 30-year-old. As one of the two more natural right-back options, he’ll hope to get more minutes as he’s done well so far.
