Ryan Sutter A ‘bachelorette’ Alum, Restarts His Job After 2 Major Illnesses

Ryan Sutter is working again. The former Bachelorette star wrote on Instagram on Monday that he’s back at work as a firefighter after being sick and hurt for months.

“I took a walk today. After two major surgeries and nearly six months, yesterday was my first day back in the firehouse,” he wrote next to a picture of his face up close.  “So I walked and I reflected. It was a good day back on the job.”

“This job isn’t easy, especially in this time and place,” Ryan said. “However, it’s a huge chance to be tested, humbled, and taught that, despite our differences, we are all just people in this life, similar in at least that much… What a job! It feels good to be back… Still the best job of all time.”

Ryan said in May that he was diagnosed with Lyme disease and mould toxicity after being sick for more than a year with an unknown illness.

“My body would itch for no reason—I had no rash, headaches, swollen lymph nodes, nausea, night sweats, fevers, really deep bone and muscle aches, joint aches, and periods of extreme, almost paralysing fatigue,” Ryan spoke about his signs on his wife Trista Sutter’s podcast, Better Etc.

Ryan also said that he found out through genetic testing that he is “vulnerable to toxins,” which is a risk he faces more often because of his job.

“In the end, it comes down to the fact that I work in a field where I’m exposed to a lot of toxins. We had our house tested for mould, and the results showed that we didn’t have it. However, I go into a lot of other people’s homes, and I see mould in a lot of them “he said. “In that job, your body has to fight off a lot of toxicants.”

Ryan said this about Lyme disease: “It looks like I’ll always have that. Just that now that I know, I can try to build up my immune system again so I can fight it off.”

Ryan had surgery to replace his knee 3 months after he was told he had Lyme disease. Then, in September, he also had surgery to fix his ankle.

Ryan wrote on Instagram after his 2nd surgery, “A sincere thank you to everyone who continues to write, pray, and send me good vibes.” “I care a lot about it. Please bring that same kindness into your everyday lives and treat people with respect, grace, and dignity. Even more, than I do, the rest of the world needs it.”
