Sins of Our Mother, a docu-series about a real crime, joined Netflix‘s other true crime shows on September 14. The scary story tells about the life and crimes of Lori Vallow Daybell, who has been called the “doomsday mom” by the media.
Lori became famous when she was arrested for killing her children, 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan. But what killed them? Where is Lori right now? Here is what we know.

Not long before JJ and Tylee went missing, their friends and family worried that Lori’s obsession with the end of the world had turned dangerous because she still thought her two youngest children were zombies.
Reports say that Tylee was last seen in late September 2019 when she went to Yellowstone National Park with Lori’s brother, Alex Cox. On the other hand, witnesses last saw JJ at his elementary school, right before his mother pulled him out of all of his classes so he could be homeschooled.
After the kids went missing, both family members and people they knew insisted that the authorities check on the kids’ health. Their bodies weren’t found, though, until June of the next year.
Lori said that JJ was in Arizona to see a family friend. Later, it was found that both of her children had been killed and buried on Chad Daybell’s property in Salem, Idaho.
JJ’s body was found in a bag that had been sealed with duct tape. Tylee’s body had been burned, cut up, and left in a pet cemetery on the property.
As of now, only Chad and Lori know the truth about what happened to JJ and Tylee. The investigation is still going on. But the police found a series of messages that were hard to understand but turned out to be very telling.
According to the affidavit, Chad texted, “Well, this morning has been interesting!” I thought I should burn all of the broken branches in the fire pit before the coming storms made them too wet.
“While I was doing that, I saw a big raccoon walking along the fence.” I ran to get my gun, but he had already moved on. I got so close that one shot was enough to kill it. He is now in the graveyard for our pets. Fun times!”

Lori is still waiting for trial, even though she was charged with killing her late husband and children two years ago. She pleaded not guilty to the three charges against her in April 2022. Later, the state said it would go after the death penalty.
As of right now, Lori’s day in court won’t come until January 2023, when she and her lover Chad will both be tried.
