Starfield, Bethesda’s 1st new RPG in 25 years, is set in a grounded and realistic 24th-century galaxy. We’ve finally gotten a gradual trickle of details 4 years after it was first teased in 2018.

Despite Bethesda’s announcement of a 2022 release date, Starfield has now been pushed back to 2023, just when we were getting used to the routine concept videos running up to the summer.

Despite the postponement until next year, we’ll keep obtaining data about Starfield’s clans, characters, and space travel right here. Here’s everything we know about Bethesda’s upcoming RPG thus far.

Starfield Release Date

Starfield was scheduled to be released on November 11th, 2022, in honor of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but Microsoft declared a postponement to the “first half of 2023” just weeks before their Xbox demonstration.

Starfield was just listed as “early 2023” on an Xbox Game Pass enrollment page, and all of the titles at the showcase are set to arrive within the next year. So it’s feasible that we won’t have to wait long to begin exploring. In any case, Starfield will be available solely on Xbox One X/S and PC next year.

Starfield Gameplay

Todd Howard brought lots to offer the audience at the 2022 Xbox & Bethesda demo, including our long-awaited first glimpse at real Starfield gameplay.

We get our introduction to an interplanetary Bethesda open world on a bleak sulfurous moon called Kreet, which gives way to gunplay versus space criminals. NPC dialogue clips offer us a feel of the player’s overall goal and the parties they can join as they progress through their adventures.

We get a look at Bethesda’s character creation, which Howard describes as “the most flexible yet.” A skill system exists, in which skills picked with each level-up can obtain higher rankings as they are used to bring more rewards.

Players will be able to personalize and alter their space weaponry via a crafting system. Players will be able to create outposts as they explore distant worlds, using systems that appear to be more intricate and well-implemented than Fallout 4’s base-building.

Todd then brings out the heavy guns and shows off Starfield’s ship customization. Players can totally customize their spacecraft’s appearance, layout, and performance, down to specific modules from various vendors.

The game’s scale is explained at the end of the gameplay reveal. Players can land and explore anywhere in over 100 star systems, on any planet, resulting in a fully-explorable galaxy with over 1,000 planets.

Starfield Plot & Setting

Just because we’ve seen all of the Starfield trailers doesn’t mean we’ve had enough of them. After all, this article is believed to contain “all we know about Starfield,” which naturally includes all of the story and background information we’ve acquired thus far.

As you might expect, Starfield is set in space – specifically, the Settled Systems, which were first revealed in one of the trailers described above.

This is where humanity feels at home in the universe, with several planets to explore as part of the game’s story. Some of these worlds are also familiar to us: New Atlantis is home to the United Colonies faction, while Akila City is home to the Freestar Collective.

That is also an important aspect to consider. Like other Bethesda games, Starfield is expected to have a strong emphasis on the conflict between its factions, with many of them influencing the course of your tale through their disagreements.

There is friction between the two primary factions at the time of Starfield’s setting (the 24th century), though they aren’t actually at war… anymore. Who knows what will happen when you spend more time in the Settled Systems?

In addition to the two groups in New Atlantis and Akila City, there are a number of smaller, more shady alliances. Corpos, pirates, religiously fundamentalist kind-of-cultists, and so on are among them.

Meanwhile, the third planet we’ve seen, Neon, demonstrates how difficult science-fiction may be. We think you must watch the video above to see what we mean, but if you still need proof, it’s Huxley-esque in that it’s home to a particular form of psychedelic fish. But it’s mackerel, not Soma. Brilliant.

Oh, and did we forget to mention your robot pal? Didn’t we? Okay, but because it’s a robot companion, we’re still going to bring it up again. You’ll undoubtedly have a lot of other fans, but Vasco is basically a cross between Dogmeat and Mister Handy – what more could you want from 2330’s scientific prowess?

Starfield Latest News And Leaks

We hope to hear more about Starfield soon, but the next time we’re likely to hear something about it is either at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Display on June 12 or at Quakecon 2022 in August.

In April 2022, a former Bethesda feature artist named Hevy008 decided to post leaked info about the Starfield beta just on Resetera forums. He said that there would be a Starfield beta “this summer.” They also say that space flight will be part of the game. However, they also say that “flying is terrible” and that Starfield has “too much content.”

Even though the original posts are gone, Reddit user LingonberryOK2153 saved the comments. Jason Schreier of Bloomberg said on the record that Hevy008 is who they say they are, but he added that he “can’t exactly back up everything they said.”

Aside from that, Starfield got a new Steam page last year, and the lead animator briefly talked about the “NASA-punk” style of the game. During the Microsoft and Bethesda stream at E3 2021, a lot of information about Starfield was also shown.

Todd Howard tells the Telegraph in an interview from 2021 that Starfield is “a bit more hardcore of a role-playing game.” In addition to this, he affirms that Bethesda is “going back to doing things that we used to have in games a long time ago that we believed truly allowed players express the persona they want to be.”
