Skyrim Anniversary Edition Has Been Problematic on Nintendo Switch; Here’s Why

The Skyrim Anniversary Edition for Switch just came out, and players are already having trouble with it, which brings up bigger problems.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition came out for the Nintendo Switch on September 28 of this year. When players started the game, they ran into a lot of problems with how it worked. These were especially noticeable when both Creation Club content and the game’s Survival Mode were being run.

Bethesda is looking into what might be causing Skyrim Anniversary Edition for Switch to run slower. Still, there are other people in the community who are trying to figure out what’s going on on their own. Some Redditors seem to have figured out what’s wrong, but Skyrim’s constant re-releases are just a sign of a much bigger problem.

Why Skyrim On Switch Doesn’t Work

Many people agree with a popular post on the Nintendo Switch subreddit that talks about Skyrim Anniversary Edition’s framerate problems. Some people have even complained about the game’s price, which is a whopping $70, even though it’s only a $20 upgrade for people who already have Skyrim on Switch.

People think that this much money is too much to pay for a game that came out years ago, and the fact that it seems to run slowly doesn’t help.

The problem, says user NylesRX, who says they are part of the modding community for Skyrim Switch, is in the game’s code. The modders did their own research and found that Skyrim Anniversary Edition works pretty well on Switch, but only if all the extra features are turned off. In short, the performance of a game gets worse the more extra content a player has.

Not surprisingly, this made people dislike Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Switch even more. The high price and sloppy coding were bad enough, but the fact that this port can’t be easily modded makes it even worse. Players won’t be able to easily fix frame rate drops and other problems with the game’s performance.

How Many More Time Does Skyrim Come Out?

It seems crazy that Bethesda would put out a game that is 11 years old and charge $70 for it, but that is exactly what they have done. The company knows how popular Skyrim is, which is why there are so many re-releases in the community.

Even if these new versions are full of bad code and bugs that break the game, it doesn’t matter. As long as people still want these not-very-good re-releases, Bethesda will probably keep beating its not-quite-dead horse.

Because Bethesda has been so focused on Skyrim, they haven’t done much with the other Elder Scrolls games, even though fans want remakes or re-releases. It would take time to fix up these old games because the company would have to bring the graphics and gameplay up to date, but it would be a treat for both new and old fans of the series.

For example, many people in the community still hope that Morrowind and Oblivion will be remade or even remastered. Fans have loved these titles for a long time and still do. They are also a great way for newer players to see another side of Tamriel that is hard to find in The Elder Scrolls Online.

At the end of the day, Skyrim Anniversary Edition for Switch shows that Bethesda has been unable to move on from Skyrim for a long time. But it’s hard to blame the company, especially since people keep buying the game and giving Bethesda a reliable way to make money.

Players can expect more versions of Skyrim in the coming years, at least until the community stops supporting re-releases that aren’t as good as the first time.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
