According to Brandon Marcello of 247Sports, EA Sports announced earlier this summer that the release date for their new college football game will be July 2023.

The final edition of the popular EA Sports NCAA College Football franchise was released in 2013 for Xbox 360 and PS3, with Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson on the cover. Due to legal issues surrounding the game’s use of player likeness, the famous college football game franchise was eventually discontinued.

Ncaa 23 Release Date

EA Sports announced in February 2021 that it would be bringing back a college football video game, presumably NCAA 23, for PC and consoles.

This week, EA Sports confirmed that this college football game will be released in July 2023. NCAA 23 will be EA Sports’ first college football video game in ten years, following the series’ cancellation in 2013.

Will There Be Real Coaches In The Game?

Coaches have yet to be approached about using their likenesses in games. This is not expected to happen until EA Sports secures a third party to assist with player signings.

EA Sports is also prepared to exclude every scholarship player from a team’s 85-man roster. In fact, it may be impossible to secure every scholarship player’s NIL rights before the game’s release date, which, when combined with the monumental task of building a true-to-life roster, is illogical.

What does this imply? The developer hopes to secure enough rights for a two-deep depth chart, with fake players filling out the rest of the roster.

The Madden Engine Powers The Game

EA Sports College Football is based on the Madden engine, but fans can expect gameplay changes, similar to previous iterations of the NCAA Football franchise in the 2000s and 2010s.

EA Sports will primarily focus on the game’s design, atmosphere, and unique traditions for each school. That being said, the game isn’t just a reskin of the Madden game.

The playbook will be much more comprehensive and team-specific. Remember that in the 2013 version of the game, the NCAA Football franchise (not Madden) was the first to implement RPO plays. The EA Sports team has spent a lot of time designing stadiums and implementing assets to differentiate game-day atmospheres from school to school. The almost-romantic focus on the pageantry of college football traditions that distinguished the NCAA Football and Madden franchises will continue in the College Football franchise.

“Madden is entertaining, but college football is quite different,” Jones explained. “There are numerous environments to choose from, as well as numerous types of players. It’s unlike anything else.”

New Features in College Football 23

Portal for Transfer

EA Sports made it official yesterday morning around 9 a.m. ET that College Football 23 will include a student transfer portal.

EA Sports has yet to issue a press release or provide additional information about their new transfer portal feature. Sports game developers are constantly looking for new ways to make their games as realistic as possible, and adding the transfer portal does just that for College Football 23.

However, the unknown specifics of how that can positively or negatively impact your team have added a wrinkle of skepticism worth keeping an eye on.

Uniforms and Helmet Stickers

EA Sports has gone above and beyond by including unique helmet stickers in addition to a slew of throwback uniforms. Though we don’t know which uniforms to expect, one can only imagine how exciting this feature will be, given that the previous edition of the game’s options weren’t fruitful.

One Significant Drawback

The biggest disadvantage of this new college football game is that it will only be available on next-generation consoles (Xbox Series X and PS5). This means that any gamers who still use an Xbox One or a PlayStation 4 will be unable to play this game.

There has been no confirmation on whether College Football 24 will be available for PC. Because the game is still in its early stages, we won’t know that information until sometime next year.

That being said, keep checking back for any updates on the latest from College Football 24.
