“All of that came together in a very organic way, and I believe this was more of a proof point that this is a really important area of programming for us.”

Virgin River SummaryVirgin River Season 5

At the end of Season 4, Virgin River was busy.

Throughout the series, Mel’s unborn baby’s father was unknown. Her pregnancy was revealed at the end of Season 3 and although she was in a relationship with Jack when the third season ended, they had been broken up in previous episodes which saw Mel travel to L.A. to a fertility clinic where the embryos she and her late husband Mark (Daniel Gillies) had frozen were being held. Mel didn’t know if Jack or Mark was the father.

Jack is Mel’s baby’s father, the show confirmed in the Season 4 conclusion. Jack proposed to Mel, something he had planned to do last season but was stopped by her pregnancy. She said yes.

Virgin River Season 5 Storyline Expectation

Mel and Jack will juggle kids and wedding planning in Season 5.

Jack’s former Charmaine Roberts (Lauren Hammersley) told him she was expecting twins. During Season 4’s dramatic delivery, she confessed he wasn’t the father.

Mel actor Breckenridge has shared how she feels this development will effect Jack’s storyline for Season 5. She told TV Line: “Being betrayed on such a big scale has to come with rage and hurt. He spent emotionally, mentally, and financially on these children. Dedicated. Jack will find it hard to let go.”

Elsewhere in Virgin River Season 4, Doc’s mysterious grandson Denny was found to be suffering from Huntington’s illness after he was observed digging through his grandfather’s medical cabinet and battling with memory. Doc will help his grandchild with Huntington’s disease in Season 5.
