Wonka is a much-anticipated new film about a young Willy Wonka, set before the events of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Paul King directed the picture, which he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby.
Willy Wonka will be seen on screen for the first time since Johnny Depp played him in the 2005 picture. Gene Wilder had already played the role in 1971. But both of these revealed Wonka before he had the chocolate factory, therefore the future film will show us who he was before that. Here’s all we know thus far about the flick…

Wonka Release Date
Wonka is now scheduled to be released on Friday, December 15, 2023. Its original release date was Monday, March 17, 2023; however, this date has been moved back to accommodate the delay. The new movie version of the adaptation won’t be released to theaters for some time yet, so fans will have to be patient. You can see a tweet below:

Who’s In The Cast?
Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) has been hired as Willy Wonka, playing a younger version of the legendary chocolatier. This will also be the first film in which Timothée Chalamet sings and dances, with musical numbers composed by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy. Timothée was most recently seen as the lead in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.
Other identities have been revealed, but it is unclear what roles they will play. Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman, and Jim Carter are among the actors that have played Willy Wonka.
Meanwhile, recent rumours suggest that Hugh Grant, who stars in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will play an Oompa Loompa in the future film.
What Is The Story Of Wonka?
We don’t know much about the plot yet, but we do know it will be a prequel. So far, the official synopsis is: “An origin story that explores the vivid, mythical beginnings of the imaginative young inventor before he becomes the renowned scrumdiddlyumptious Mozart of chocolate.”
According to Deadline: “Wonka will mark the first time Chalamet gets to show off his singing and dancing skills with several musical numbers set to appear in the film. He’s been the top choice for some time but scheduling was a hurdle that had to be overcome as training for those numbers is included in the prep for this film.”

Will Wonka Be Available To Stream?
Warner Bros. released their complete film slate in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day in 2020. Later in 2021, the company switched to a 45-day release window, during which the films were only available in theaters for a month and a half.
As of 2022, the corporation had gradually restored to its previous state. Most movies take at least three months to get on Max. Wonka is unlikely to be available for streaming until Spring 2024.
