The Great is a historical and satirical black comedy-drama that follows Catherine the Great as she goes from being an outsider to having the longest reign of any woman in Russian history. The fictional television series centres on the plot to assassinate Catherine’s evil and dangerous husband and depicts Catherine in her youth and marriage to Russian Emperor Peter III.

The Great Season 3 Renewed?

Hulu confirmed in January that a third season of the show is in the works, with ten episodes once again. There isn’t much else known about when the new season will premiere, but it’s safe to assume that Fanning and Hoult will both return.

The Great Season 3 Release Date and Time

There have been no announcements regarding the release date of Season 3. I don’t expect it to be on any 2022 TV premiere schedule, but if it does end up airing in late 2022, I won’t be upset.

However, given that filming began in July 2022, it appears more likely that it will be released in 2023. If we’re lucky, we’ll get a release date in 2022. But since nothing has been confirmed, we can only wait and see.

The Great Season 3 Expected Cast

The actors who portray Catherine and Peter III, respectively, Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, have formally announced that they will return to the series. Both of them appear to be enthusiastic about their new positions. Their son Paul will return in the series along with the theme.

It will be exciting to see what happens to them in the upcoming season with Gillian Anderson returning as Joanna.

  • Nicholas Hoult (Peter II of Russia)

  • Florence Keith-Roach (as Tatyana)

The Great Season 3 Plot

The second season was abruptly ended, which opened up many possibilities for the show’s future. The story shed some blood, sweat, and tears in the final episodes, and we know that the series will be even better in the next instalment.

We saw Catherine’s diplomatic solutions eventually lead to the Sultan’s death, which causes even more uproar in the palace. Furthermore, these put enormous pressure on Peter, causing him to be dethroned.

On the other hand, Peter is enraged and desires the throne. He appears to be determined, but will he be successful? No, not at all. Catherine finally decided to stab Peter in the back (et tu, brute?) in the final scene. However, things were not as simple as they appear. It is later revealed that Catherine stabbed a lookalike of Peter, who has since vanished. Well!

Later, Peter came to comfort her, but what shocked both of them was that they were willing to kill each other despite their eternal love, I mean, what? We’ll probably find out what happens to the couple and who will take the throne in the third season.

We’re still figuring it out, but will they both be able to live? Or if Hulu one of them died! We have a lot of questions, and we need to know what exactly happens.

Where to Watch

The third season of The Great is expected to premiere on the US streaming service Hulu, just like the previous two. On Starzplay, which can be accessed through Prime Video, The Great season 3 will be streamable in the UK.

About Previous Season

Archie is upset to learn that God has abandoned him in the season finale of The Great, which opens with Catherine and Peter madly in love. Catherine then invited Archie to serve her rather than God. Catherine also carries out her plan to meet with the Ottoman Sultan in the hope that both parties will discuss peace.
