Let me start by saying that there has been no official announcement that a Season 7 of The Expanse will be made. In truth, all official announcements have said that Season 6 will be the final season, with no mention of a prospective successor series to complete the adaptation of the book series.
However, this act has already performed miracles and has a devoted following. While this situation feels different, given that the cast and crew knew Season 6 would be their final and set out to finish the tale, the series finale—and the final season in general—left the narrative door open for more stories to come if financing could be found in the future.

Why The Expanse Season 7 Cancelled At Amazon
The Expanse director Naren Shankar told io9 that the main reason for this was financial pressures, which is also why season six was reduced from ten to six episodes:
“The decision was made by Amazon and Alcon Television. You always partially agree on how much money you’re going to put into the show’s production. That was the final choice. It came down to six episodes being made. To some sense, everything is a negotiation. Could we have managed ten? Absolutely. Were we able to do eight? Certainly. I don’t think we could have predicted the season in less than six months.”
As upsetting as the cancellation is, fans can take solace in the fact that the climax of book six, which is also where season six concludes, has a natural ending point. Because Persepolis Rising, the seventh book in the series, takes place after a 30-year time leap, a prospective seventh season would have to apply CGI and makeup to age up each character – or possibly fully recast them, as in The Crown.
Writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck described the show’s cancellation as a “pause” when it was first announced in 2020 (via Polygon):
“After season six, we do what we think is a very logical pause point for the tale,” Franck said during a press event. “It’ll be a gratifying conclusion to the story we’ve been developing for the past five seasons. I believe that being canceled is one of the concepts that has become outdated.”

Possibility of The Expanse Season 7
Season 7 of The Expanse is now in its momentum design, making it difficult to predict the show’s fate, given that it has essentially proven itself unviable as an economic property at both SyFy and Amazon Prime Video. Along these lines, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any more episodes of this amazing show on television.
This may be changed by the series. The truth is assuming that the show became significantly more popular on Amazon Prime Video for unknown reasons and that the review analysis prompted Amazon, or other media groups, to greenlight another series.
I doubt it will happen because it hasn’t so far, despite Amazon’s massive special push and the fanbase yelling about the show to everyone who might tune in for the last six seasons. Whatever the case may be, who can say for sure?
