The show, based on a comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, pushes the boundaries of the superhero genre. “Our show is the real world in every way, with the exception that the superheroes that everyone idolizes happen to be real,” Kripke says.

The “supes” in the show aren’t the brave heroes that people expect; in fact, they’re the conceited villains. They’re constantly engaged in a raucous battle with The Boys, a small vigilante group that works under the radar to bring down the supes, as well as their major corporate sponsor.

However, the show’s creators are interested in more than just watching superheroes fight. “What we’re really interested in is late-stage capitalism and white supremacy cloaked in social media and systemic racism,” Kripke explained. True heroes work quietly, without any recognition for their efforts.”

The Boys season 3 release date

You can’t argue that The Boys team doesn’t keep fans up to date on everything – on January 7, it was confirmed that the official release date for season three is June 3, 2022.

Filming for the third installment began on February 24, 2021, and the gang officially wrapped for the third season on September 17, 2021.

Unlike most streaming services, The Boys changed plans between seasons one and two, and instead of releasing them all at once, they came out weekly.

The same thing is expected to happen with the new episodes, with the gap between the end of filming and release likely due to the need for extensive special effects.

The Boys season 3 cast

The conclusion of The Boys season 2 means that the cast of The Boys season 3 has been reshuffled.

Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie (Jack Quaid), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are all back, and Homelander (Antony Starr), Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Starlight (Eriarty), A-Train (Jessie Usher), and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) round out the Supe. The Deep (Chace Crawford) is also still around. Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) returns as well.

Outside of that, Claudia Doumit’s Congresswoman Victoria Neuman is the most well-known name. She’s clearly going to be a major focus of season three after being revealed to be behind the head-exploding attacks. She and Colby Minifie (Vought PR Ashley) have been promoted to series regulars, according to Deadline(opens in new tab).

Speaking of head explosions, Cindy, an escape Sage Grove patient, is now on the run and “as dangerous as ever.” She’ll almost certainly appear in season 3 of The Boys.

Soldier Boy, a Supe who is essentially a twisted version of Captain America, is one confirmed new addition to the cast. Jensen Ackles, from Supernatural, will play him.

According to Eric Kripke, the character will be “the very first Superhero, bringing so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role.” Kripke also revealed to TV Guide(opens in new tab) that Soldier Boy has an unexpected tie to Stormfront. Ackles also shared a photo of his new hairstyle, presumably while in quarantine for filming on The Boys – if this is for the show, it’s a style change for Soldier Boy, who in the comics has shorter hair and is clean-shaven. The character’s first official images show a slightly less unkempt Ackles, with shorter hair and a beard. He’s also dressed in full costume, and you can see his shield.

The Boys season 3 plot

According to The Boys star Jack Quaid, “no one is okay” in season three, which should come as no surprise given the dramatic climax of the second installment.

Some hints from the season two finale may reveal where The Boys’ story will go next, with Hughie (Quaid) joining the campaign of mysterious congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) after her true nature was revealed.

“Similarly, there is a corrupt politician named Vic Neuman in the books.” “And through him, they get into some of the shadier sides of politics,” Kripke told Collider.

“And, while we have a very different character, I believe we’re hinting at the presence of a corrupt politician who will lead us into some of the seedier sides of politics as the show progresses.”

The series will also delve into the past of the evil corporation. Through the eyes of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and his superhero team Payback, a parody of the Avengers (hence the name).

“One of the things I like best about the world in [The Boys] comic books is not just how fleshed out it is, but also its history.” It dates back 60 to 70 years and is just as detailed as it is today,” Kripke told EW.

“One of the reasons we’re getting into Soldier Boy [in season 3] and that team, Payback, is we’re curious about how we got here.” We can learn a little bit about the history of America and how we got to where we are now by studying the history of the supes. Soldier Boy allows us to do just that.
