Teen Wolf Season 7 Release date: Is This Season Has Been Canceled?

Teen Wolf had amassed a devoted following, so it came as a surprise to many when MTV abruptly canceled the show. What was the real reason for the show’s cancellation before season 7?

The following is the reason why Teen Wolf was canceled rather than having the seventh season. It was in 2011 that the MTV supernatural series Scott McCall premiered, with Tyler Posey playing the titular character, who was loosely based on the 1985 film of the same name starring Michael J. Fox. The show, which is set in the fictional town of Beacon Hills, has received generally positive reviews and has amassed a devoted following, which is why fans were disappointed to learn that Teen Wolf season 6 would be the series’ final season.

One interesting aspect of Teen Wolf’s run, however, is that when the series was initially renewed for a sixth season consisting of 10 episodes in 2015, there was no indication that it would be the series’ final season. Both Jeff Davis, the show’s creator, and MTV executives claim that they came to an agreement to end the show after six seasons because they believe it had reached the end of its usefulness. Nonetheless, there was no indication at all that the show would be wrapping up anytime soon prior to the announcement of its cancellation. The storytelling format of season 6 — which included two narrative arcs in its final year — suggests that the show may have been forced to cram both stories into its final 20 episodes, as was the case in season 5.

Teen Wolf had previously split its seasons, but in its final season, the show took a different approach that was welcomed by fans. Instead of telling a single story throughout the season, they divided it into ten-episode arcs, which were then interconnected. After spending the first half of the season away from Beacon Hills, Scott, Stiles Stilinski (Dylan O’Brien), Lydia Martin (Holland Roden), and Malia Tate (Shelley Hennig) returned for the final semester of their high school year, culminating in their graduation. Every character was shown off to their respective new lives in the second half of Teen Wolf season 6, which continued until they were summoned back to Beacon Hills when a new villain appeared on the scene.

Teen Wolf Season 7 Reason for cancellation

According to the evidence, the likelihood is that Teen Wolf was canceled as a result of low ratings, which was the primary reason for its cancellation. However, this isn’t the only reason season 7 was never broadcast. MTV began to shift its programming from scripted shows to unscripted shows in 2016. A music competition produced by Mark Burnett, the producer of popular shows such as The Voice, The Survivor, and Shark Tank, was among the 11 unscripted shows ordered by the cable network in April of that year, according to Variety. It has also given the green light to reality competitions in order to capitalize on its growing audience, as well as a number of docuseries. MTV did pick up a couple of scripted shows to help balance things out, but it’s clear that they were putting more emphasis on their unscripted content — as opposed to projects such as Teen Wolf — than on their scripted content.

In addition, Teen Wolf’s ratings had been steadily declining since its peak in season 3 with an average of 1.97 million viewers. This didn’t help the situation at all. In season 4, Teen Wolf saw a slight decrease in audience share, with 1.61 million viewers tuning in, which was still a respectable number. However, by season 5, the series had experienced a significant decrease, with only an average of 1.07 million viewers tuning in. By the show’s final season, the numbers had completely plummeted, with an average audience of less than half a million viewers. It’s possible that the public had begun to lose interest in Teen Wolf and where it was going, but the departure of several cast members over the course of the show’s run may also have played a role in the decision to cancel the show. Several prominent characters, including Derek Hale, Jackson Whittemore, and Kira Yukimura, have left their roles on the show for a variety of reasons. Tyler Hoechlin, Colton Hayes, and Arden Cho, who played these characters, have all left their roles for a variety of reasons. Teen Wolf also had to work around O’Brien’s injury while filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which resulted in Stiles being used sparingly in season 6 of the series. This came as a disappointment to many long-time fans who had hoped that season 7 would bring the return of some Teen Wolf characters as well as increased interaction between certain characters (such as Stiles and Scott).
