Sweet Tooth had managed to stand out from the crowd with its original take on the post-apocalyptic fiction that was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
Based on the popular DC Comics television series by writer and artist Jeff Lemire, the more cheerful alteration portrays the search for safe havens for human/deer hybrids in the wake of a deadly virus in which a young boy and his protective adult companion seek to avoid human survivors who despise his kind. Sweet Tooth fans should have been relieved to learn that a second season is in the works, given how the season ended.
Here are all the essential details we know about the second instalment of this endearing adventure, starting with the number of chapters viewers can expect this time.
Sweet Tooth season two was kept under wraps for a long time by Netflix and the show’s producers, but given how season one ended, we always assumed there was a plan in place. Don’t be surprised if Sweet Tooth continues for more than one season.
Don’t expect new episodes until late 2022 at the earliest, given all that. Because Sweet Tooth is a high-budget film, it takes a long time to complete the post-production process.
The wait will be worthwhile, however. A recent Netflix report stated that Sweet Tooth’s first season was viewed by 60 million households, making it the sixth most popular English-language show. With 62 million viewers, Gus falls just behind The Queen’s Gambit, while Emily in Paris garners 58 million viewers.
Season 2 filming is expected to begin in Auckland, New Zealand in January 2022, and it looks like the show will return there for the entire season’s eight episodes.
Season 2 of Sweet Tooth will be filmed in New Zealand from 2022 to 2023.
Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies (including the Hobbit prequel trilogy) and Netflix’s live-action reboot of the hit anime Cowboy Bebop, which premiered in 2021, are just two of the many fantasy films that have been shot in New Zealand. Sweet Tooth’s first season was also filmed in the South Pacific nation, which will continue to represent the post-apocalyptic world when the cameras begin rolling again in the near future.
Since we haven’t heard anything new about the upcoming season’s cast, we can safely assume that the majority of the first season’s characters will return for season 2.
Furthermore, Christian Convery’s child star, Gus, and Nonso Anozie, who will play Jepperd, will undoubtedly be the show’s stars.
It is expected that the following characters will return for the second season:
- Gus (Christian Convery)
- Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie)
- Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar)
- Gus’ father (Will Forte, possibly in a flashback)
- Aimee (Dania Ramirez)
- General Steven Abbot (Neil Sandilands)
- Bear (Stefania LaVie Owen )
There’s also the possibility of new cast members, namely a variety of new hybrids (some of which have appeared in the comics and others which have not).
However, we’ll have to wait until the second season to find out who else will join the cast.
Is there a trailer for Season 2?
Nope. It will be a long time before we see another trailer.
Netflix may release some early behind-the-scenes footage if Sweet Tooth is renewed and filming begins. Even though a trailer is more likely to be released a month before Season 2 premieres. You can watch the Season 1 trailer at any time.
What is the storyline of Season 2 of Sweet Tooth?
It’s difficult to answer this question. Netflix’s adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s comic has a lot of differences from the original. There is, however, a distinct overlap.
Season 1 ended with Gus and several other hybrids trapped in a compound where they will be experimented on in an attempt to find a cure for “the sick.” Jepperd and Aimee, on the other hand, are working together to save those children.
In the comics, Jepperd assembles a team to break the hybrids out, which is very similar to what happens next. It is reasonable to assume that the first episode of Sweet Tooth Season 2 will feature some sort of prison break — assuming the show gets renewed at all.
