The Cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Captain Christopher Pike of the USS Enterprise, played by Anson Mount. The authors used Mount’s own leadership style as a source of inspiration for the character’s development beyond his brief appearance in the original series.

Akiva Goldsman, a co-showrunner of the series, said Mount likes working with a group, and this resulted in a table being added to Pike’s rooms where he can gather the crew and cook for them.

  • Rebekah Romijn plays Number One, the first officer of the Enterprise and Pike’s right-hand woman.
  • Spock, the Enterprise’s science officer, is played by Ethan Peck.
  • M’Benga, played by Babs Olusanmokun, is a doctor on board the USS Enterprise.
  • Christina Chong plays La’an Noonien-Singh: A descendant of Ricardo Montalbán’s Star Trek nemesis Khan Noonien Singh.
  • As Nyota Uhura, Celia Rose Gooding is a cadet on the Enterprise.
  • Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) is an Enterprise nurse.
  • Erica Ortegas, played by Melissa Navia, is the Enterprise’s helmswoman. In the original Star Trek pitch, there was a navigator called Jose Ortegas, and her surname is a nod to that character.

What is the plot of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds about?

After his mentor and predecessor Christopher Pike, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds takes place before James T. Kirk became captain. “Where No Man Has Gone Before” will take place after the events of Star Trek: Discovery and the first (failed) Star Trek pilot episode “The Cage,” but before the successful Original Series pilot.

Strange New Worlds is expected to take place sometime between 2259 and 2266 in terms of a stardate. Tense relations between Klingons and Federation are a given in Discovery, based on what we know so far.

Akiva Goldsman co-wrote the series alongside Henry Alonso and will serve as co-showrunner. Other notable credits for Goldsman’s resume include writing on such blockbuster films as Batman & Robin and The Da Vinci Code as well as A Beautiful Mind.
