Puss in Boots 2: Confirmed Release Date, Cast Details, Plot & Everything We Know So Far

The long-awaited return of everyone’s favorite swashbuckling feline to the big screen has finally arrived.

Despite the fact that it was Puss in Boots’ first solo film, the suave pussycat was a huge commercial success, earning over $554 million at the worldwide box office in 2011.

Despite this, the sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, appeared to be stuck in development hell, with the film even changing directors. Instead of Bob Persichetti (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Joel Crawford (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) will direct the film, with Mark Swift serving as producer.

In any case, the wait is almost over: the release date has been set for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the first new adventure set in the Shrek universe in more than a decade, and the film will hit theatres sometime later this year.

Puss’ epic journey to find the mythical Wishing Star, which is the only thing that can restore the eight lives he has lost, will be the subject of the movie.

In addition to an intriguing trailer (below), a poster (below) has been released, providing fans with their first glimpse of Puss in battle with a massive stone monster – and demonstrating that he hasn’t lost his desire for public validation.

Puss’s gratitude, on the other hand, comes at a high price, as he realizes he is down to his ninth and final life.

Kitty Softpaws, Puss’ former love interest from the first film who will be voiced by Salma Hayek, returns in the second film as well, as we can see in the first trailer. In addition, Antonio Banderas will reprise his role as Puss in Boots in the sequel.

Puss in Boots 2: Confirmed Release Date

Having enjoyed critical and financial success with the first film in 2011, which earned an impressive $554 million at the international box office, a sequel seemed almost inevitable for DreamWorks Animation. In spite of this, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish has been stuck in development hell for a long time, with multiple directors and even discussions about a possible franchise reboot. Fortunately, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish will be released later this year, which means we won’t have to wait much longer for our collective happiness!

It will be directed by Joel Crawford and produced by Mark Swift, who will also serve as executive producer. Crawford and Swift did an outstanding job collaborating on The Croods: A New Age, which earned them a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 23.

Puss in Boots 2 Cast

There’s also some exciting news on the cast front: Antonio Banderas will be returning to reprise his role as Puss in Boots.

Other actors who have joined the cast in unspecified roles include Anthony Mendez (Jane the Virgin), John Mulaney (Big Mouth), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Trolls), Ray Winstone (Black Widow), and others.

Puss in Boots 2 Plot

There is no plotline for Puss in Boot 2, we recap the story.

Puss in Boots is an anthropomorphic cat who speaks Spanish and is named after a pair of boots that he wears on his back. With the help of his friends, Puss attempts to reclaim his lost honor from the authorities. He discovers that the murderous outlaw couple Jack and Jill possess the magic beans he has been searching for for a long time and that they can lead him to a giant’s castle, which is said to contain valuable golden goose eggs, which he has long sought. Kitty Softpaws, a female cat, intervenes when Puss attempts to steal the beans from their secret hideout in the forest. Puss had been hired to steal them as well by Humpty Alexander Dumpty, a talking egg who had been a long-distance childhood friend of Puss’s from the orphanage where they had both grown up. He explains to Kitty how he came to be in the first place and how he felt betrayed by Humpty, who tricked Puss into carrying out a bank robbery in his hometown of San Ricardo. Since then, Puss has been on the run from the authorities. Puss is eventually persuaded to join them in their quest to locate the beans and retrieve the golden eggs by Humpty.

While stealing the beans from Jack and Jill and planting them in the desert, the relationship between Puss and Kitty blossoms into something more. Humpty reveals to Puss that the giant died a long time ago after riding up the beanstalk into the clouds. They then enter the giant’s castle. They still have to stay away from the Great Terror, who is guarding the golden eggs. The thieves quickly realize that the golden eggs are too heavy for them to carry and decide to steal the goose’s baby gosling after discovering that it lays golden eggs. They are successful in escaping the castle and then bringing down the beanstalk. Puss is knocked unconscious after the group is ambushed by Jack and Jill after they have finished celebrating.

When Puss awakens, he assumes that Humpty and Kitty have been kidnapped and sets out to find Jack and Jill’s wagon, which leads him back to San Ricardo. He discovers that the kidnapping was staged while he is there. Puss abandoned Jack, Jill, and Kitty during the failed heist all those years ago, and Humpty is seeking retribution against Puss. Having been begged by his adoptive mother Imelda to turn herself in, Puss finds himself surrounded by the town’s militia and eventually turns himself in. In the midst of Puss’s arrest and detention, Humpty is heralded as a hero for having brought the wealth of the golden eggs to the people of the town.

During his time in prison, Puss encounters Andy Beanstalk, who is affectionately referred to as Jack by his friends, in a nod to the character from “Jack and the Beanstalk.” As a result of Humpty’s theft of the beans from Jack, while he was imprisoned, Jack informs Puss that “the Great Terror” is actually the gosling’s mother, a giant goose who will destroy the town in order to recover her child. In the chaos, Puss realizes that luring the Great Terror was all along with Humpty’s plan and that he was hoping to destroy the town as a form of retaliation for his imprisonment and escape with the gosling. Puss is released from prison and Kitty expresses her regret, revealing her feelings for him. He manages to track down Humpty in time and persuades him to do the right thing by assisting in the rescue of the town from certain destruction. Puss and Humpty are successful in luring the Great Terror away from town by baiting him with a baby gosling. They also manage to thwart Jack and Jill’s attempt to steal the gosling during the course of the chase, thanks to Kitty’s assistance. They have knocked off a collapsing bridge as they near the outskirts of town, but they manage to hang on to a rope that Puss grabs and pulls them back to safety. When it becomes clear that Puss will not be able to save them both, Humpty makes the ultimate sacrifice by letting go. Following a fatal collision, Puss discovers that Humpty was actually a large golden egg hidden beneath his shell. The Great Terror is reunited with her gosling, and she returns to the giant’s castle with the shattered remains of Humpty’s golden egg.

Despite having saved the town and being hailed as a hero by the locals, Puss is still considered a fugitive by the police department and the militia. He flees with Kitty, who steals his boots and runs away with them in a playful manner. In the epilogue, Jack and Jill are recovering from their injuries, Humpty is revealed to have been faking his own death by dressing up in a golden egg costume, and Puss and Kitty finally share a kiss after a long time of waiting.
