Peaky Blinders Season 6: Fan Favorite Character Might Finally Die

Peaky Blinders Season 6 is fast approaching. With her, the death of the main character Tommy Shelby is only a matter of time.

Season 6 Trailer Gives Important Detail

Now that the Peaky Blinders Season 6 start date has finally been announced, fans won’t have to wait long for the continuation of the series they’ve already had to wait for over two years.

The end of season 5 was particularly dramatic: the main character Tommy Shelby has a nervous breakdown and is about to end his life. In fact, it’s safe to assume that the character will die sometime during Season 6, or maybe not until the Peaky Blinders movie, which is supposed to bring the story to a close. It’s not the first time Tommy has had suicidal thoughts throughout the series.

In the trailer for the 6th season, he says: “One last deal, then the Peaky Blinders can rest.” Does that sound like Tommy? It sounds to us as if he were longing for his own death, after all, he doesn’t seem to be able to lead a life as a “good citizen”.

That’s Why Tommy Could Die

As you watch Tommy through the seasons, it’s clear that a life of violence and high risk is right up his alley. He needs it to feel good. The fact that he now speaks of “rest” is a strong indicator for us that he longs for “eternal rest”. After all, his story couldn’t have ended any other way, could it?

Inventor Steven Knight hinted that Tommy could switch sides – but would he betray his comrades just like that? Whether it’s in Season 6 of Peaky Blinders or the movie that’s coming after it, we’re counting on Tommy Shelby dying, otherwise, his story can’t have a satisfying (and inherently logical) ending.

A Film Is On The Way

On January 18, 2021, fans of the English series received news that is not easy to digest: the sixth season of Peaky Blinders will represent the conclusion of the story. This news came a bit like a bolt from the blue, given that by now many already took for granted the production of even a seventh chapter, which should have been the epilog.

On the occasion of the screening of 5 × 01, held in Birmingham on 18 July 2019, the producer Steven Knight had in fact reiterated the fact that there would still be two seasons after the fifth, to complete his project, or to tell the story of the protagonist’s family in the period between the two world wars. As of today, we know that the series will end sooner than expected. With the announcement of the impending end, Knight said:

“Peaky comes back with a bang. After production has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we find the family in great danger and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best season of all and we are sure our wonderful fans will love it. As the TV series comes to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

This last sentence bode well for fans of Peaky Blinders, who had already smelled the scent of films in the air in 2019. Now we know that the form in which the family’s affairs will find their final outlet will be that of the feature film. This was confirmed by Steven Knight, who speaking with Deadline, said:

“COVID has changed our plans, but I can say that my plan from the start was to end Peaky Blinders with a movie. This is what will happen.”

The production of a final film is therefore officially confirmed.
