The third season of Netflix’s treasure-hunting drama series set in the titular Outer Banks has both Pogues and Kooks excited. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer, as new information about the Season 3 premiere date has emerged.

John B. was the last person we saw. When the second season of the buzzy Netflix drama aired more than a year ago, (Chase Stokes) and his friends were still in high school. The finale presented a big surprise to us: Big John (Charles Halford), John B.’s dad who’s been absent since the start of Outer Banks Season 1, is alive! It’s unclear what Season 3 will bring, but we’re hoping for a father-and-son reunion as well as more exciting adventures starring our favorite Pogues.

Outer Banks Season 3 Release Date

The Pogues will make a comeback in 2023.

Outer Banks’ official accounts announced the start of Season 3 production on February 28. With that start date, we have our fingers crossed for an early 2023 release.

Outer Banks Season 3 Cast: Who Is Back and Who Is New?

Along with the renewal, a press release obtained by What’s on Netflix states that showrunners and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shanon Burke will return.

We also know that the following key cast members will return for season 3:

  • Chase Stokes
  • Madison Bailey
  • Jonathan Daviss
  • Madelyn Cline
  • Rudy Pankow
  • Austin North
  • Charles Esten
  • Drew Starkey
  • Carlacia Grant

We learned of three new major castings for Season 3 of Outer Banks via Deadline in June 2022.

The following new cast members will appear in future episodes:

  • Andy MacQueen (Station Eleven) will play Carlos Singh, a Caribbean Don who is intelligent, refined, and ruthless, and who is on his own treasure hunt.
  • Fiona Palomo (Netflix’s Control Z) will play Sofia, a Pogue who secretly wishes to be a member of the country club crowd. She becomes close to Rafe after becoming likeable and scrappy.
  • Lou Ferrigno Jr (Star Girl) will play Ryan in season 3. He is Singh’s top security officer and enforcer, described as calm and collected but young and hungry. He’s done enough jobs to keep a cool head but also knows what could happen if he fails.

What will the third season of Outer Banks be about?

So a lot happened in the season 2 finale, which makes things even more confusing, but we’ll go over it all anyway. After murdering Ward in the same manner as John B’s father and failing to reclaim the gold cross, our favorite Pogues have found themselves alone on a mysterious island (aka Poguelandia). Knowing Rafe and Kie’s parents, the Pogues may not be stuck there indefinitely, even if they don’t know how to get back home. And, because it’s the Outer Banks, there was a surprise ending: John B’s father is still alive. We don’t know how or why he’s been missing for so long, but he appears to be on his way out.

And, yes, the showrunners’ big plan has always included this twist: “It’s going to be instrumental and maybe the spine [of season 3] basically.” “It’s obviously a massive revelation that will power a significant portion of the third season,” showrunner Shannon Burke told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m really curious to see how people react, or if they even remember who he was!” We’re crossing our fingers that the moment goes well and that people are excited.”

Prepare to be surprised, because this father-son reunion will certainly shake things up.

What happened in Season 2 of Outer Banks

Outer Banks Season 2 ended with a near-death experience for the Pogues, similar to Season 1. Much of the second season of the Netflix show followed John B., Sarah, JJ, Kiara, and Pope as they attempted to locate and retrieve the lost Cross of Santo Domingo. In the season finale, the crew secretly boarded the Coastal Venture and attempted to cross the Atlantic. After a chaotic shootout, they were forced to flee on a lifeboat. Though the Pogues left empty-handed once more, the episode ended on a positive note as they celebrated being together and safe — for the time being.
