Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, got together with some of the most important people at Paris Fashion Week on Friday to announce that next year’s Met Gala will be based on the work of the late Karl Lagerfeld.

On May 1, 2023, the world’s most stylish fundraiser will honor the work of the German-born couturier, who worked for Chanel, Fendi, and Chloe and died in 2019 at the age of 85.

As always, the theme of the Met Gala comes from the Costume Institute’s show that goes along with it. It will be called “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” and it will show about 150 of his designs to show what he calls his “style language.” The original sketches by Karl Lagerfeld will also be on display.

In a statement, the costume institute’s star curator, Andrew Bolton, said, “The exhibition will look at Lagerfeld’s complicated way of working and show how his clothes went from being flat to being three-dimensional.” “The fluid lines of his sketches led to recurring aesthetic themes in his fashions, which brought together his designs for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel, and his own label, Karl Lagerfeld, creating a diverse and prolific body of work that is unmatched in the history of fashion.”

Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” will be at the museum from May 5 to July 16, 2023. It will be shown in the Tisch Gallery.
