Created, written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show has become the most popular ever on the platform. In fact, his first season has conquered the whole world, which will soon be able to enjoy one, confirmed by the CEO himself, season 2.

Recently, series creator Dong-hyuk revealed that in addition to season 2 Squid Game season 3 is also being discussed for Netflix. Speaking with Variety, Sarandos not only confirmed that Squid Game season 2 is officially in the works. In fact, the CEO teased that much more is on the way for fans of the Korean series. Speaking of the streaming service’s fourth-quarter 2021 earnings, he added: “The Squid Game universe has just begun.”

So will we see the new Squid Game spin-off series, a bit like what’s happening with Money Heist? In fact, we remind you that a show dedicated to the character of Berlin is in development, and a Korean remake will arrive in the course of 2022. Sarandos has not unbuttoned on the issue but has hinted that the mother series will not be the only product of the franchise.

As for season 2, we don’t know how the plot will be articulated. In fact, the story could return to being set within the gaming arena, although it seems that Netflix plans to expand the Squid Game storyline outside of the games. Most probably, Gi-hun will become one of the players who get into the red team or the ones behind the masks to take revenge from the other organisers of the game. In the final scene of Season 1, we see Gi-hun on his way to go to the USA to meet his daughter when he spots a man recruiting others for the game and he decides to miss his flight.

We look forward to news on the now confirmed Squid Game franchise.

Hwang Dong-hyuk Shares Relieving Statements

During a conversation with Associated Press, the creator said,

There was really a lot of pressure, a lot of demand and a lot of love for a second season. So I feel like they left us no choice. We will do a second season. Now it’s all in my head. At the moment I’m planning everything. However, I think it is too early to say when and how it will happen. But I promise you this: Gi-hun will come back and do something for the world.

Speaking with Vulture, the director explained that there had been an error in the translation. He hadn’t confirmed a second season but simply said that according to him there would be: “I think there will really be a second season.” Netflix would be discussing it, but at the moment nothing is certain yet, it seems. During an interview released for the Korea Times, Hwang even stated that he was also in talks for the third season of Squid Game.
