Based on the same-named light book series, Mushoku Tensei is a Japanese anime series. Following a hopeless and unemployed guy who passes away after leading a depressing and seclusion life and reincarnates in a fantasy world while retaining his memories, Rudeus Greyrat is determined to live his new life relentlessly.

Manabu Okamoto worked as the director, Studio Bind handled the animation, Kazutaka Sugiyama created the character designs, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa handled the musical accompaniment. Production is claimed to Egg Firm.

The show’s debut was originally slated for 2020, but it was postponed until January 2021. On Tokyo MX, KBS, BS11, and SUN, the first half broadcast from January 11 to March 22, 2021. Due to “various circumstances,” the 2nd half was originally scheduled to debut in July 2021 but was postponed to October 2021 instead.

From October 4 through December 20, 2021, the second half was aired. There were 23 episodes in the series. The anime’s 4th Blu-ray Disc volume, which was published on March 16, 2022, included an unreleased episode.

Let’s now examine which light novel volumes will be adapted for the upcoming season and when Mushoku Tensei Season 2 will likely be released.

Mushoku Tensei Season 1 Recap

After Rudeus and Eris split apart, Mushoku Tensei’s season 1 came to an end. After a time jump, the novel’s tale continues with the next arc, which centers on Rudeus’s adolescence. Rudeus’ time with a new party and how he came to be known as the Quagmire, as well as his later years at the Ranoa Magical Academy, should be somewhat covered in the anime. Which, given that it follows a conventional school arc, may or may not be your cup of tea. (Keep in mind that this isn’t really a spoiler because Rudeus attending this school was already revealed.)

Rifujin no Magonote originally released Mushoku Tensei as an online novel on the well-known Japanese novel website Shosetsuka ni Narou. Rifujin no Magonote has previously stated in interviews that he frequently draws inspiration for his own plot developments from well-known web novels like Re: Zero. Thus, Mushoku Tensei has a separate school storyline.

The majority, if not all, “isekai” anime were first published as web novels on the Shosetsuka ni Narou website; for this reason, the “isekai” genre is actually known as the “narou” genre. In particular, to set it apart from earlier isekai anime like Escaflowne or The Twelve Kingdoms, which don’t adhere to the same patterns and aren’t clones of one another.

Mushoku Tensei’s web novel adaptation is already over, but the light novel adaptation is still going strong. The light book is titled Mushoku Tensei – Jobless Reincarnation and is available through Seven Seas.

There are still plenty of materials for many more anime seasons or motion pictures since there are currently over 24 volumes in Japan. If you can’t wait for the anime, I’d personally suggest reading the light book or manga adaptation.
