Spine-tingling Netflix series are not meant to be consumed in a single sitting, and yet the temptation is so strong! Dang! Strong! So, if you’ve already finished Mike Flanagan’s newest series, The Midnight Club (which, by the way, is based on Christopher Pike’s 1994 Young Adult Novel of the Same Name), and are looking for more, don’t worry. Here’s Everything We Know About Season 2 of The Midnight Club.
The Midnight Club: Has A Second Season Been Renewed?
We now know the answer to this important question, but it’s not what we wanted to hear. On December 1, it was announced that Netflix had decided not to give The Midnight Club a second season. This came after Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy left Netflix and signed an exclusive, multiyear deal with Amazon Studios to make TV shows.
The show’s executive producer said this about the cancellation in a Tumblr post, which, if you ask me, is still a pretty iconic way to make any announcement:
“I’m very disappointed that Netflix has decided not to pursue a second season of The Midnight Club. My biggest disappointment is that we left so many story threads open, holding them back for the hypothetical second season, which is always a gamble. So I’m writing this blog as our official second season, so you can know what might have been, learn the fates of your favorite characters, and know the answers to those dangling story threads from the first season. So for those of you who want to know what we were planning to do, here’s a look at what would have been season 2!”
Mike goes on in The Post to describe in detail what the show’s plot would have been like if it had been picked up for a second season. Not every hero wears a cape.
What Other Projects Does Flanagan Have?
Oh, so much! He is turning Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” into a Netflix show. Some people think this could technically be the third “Haunting” movie… Installation because it will have a lot of the same cast members, but a source close to the project told Variety that the show “will be a stand-alone series and will not have any connection to previous [Flanagan] series.”
Flanagan is also adapting the comic book series Something Is Killing the Children for Netflix, and he was just named the director for an adaptation of Pike’s The Season of Passage. So even though there won’t be any more Midnight Club, Flanagan will still give us a lot more.
