About a month after the airing of the season finale of the first chapter, Paramount + has announced that it has confirmed a second season for the TV series starring Jeremy Renner. Mayor of Kingstown was the original most viewed platform title after the Yellowstone spin-off, 1883.
The thriller TV series starring Jeremy Renner was conceived by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon who is also present among the cast. Among the executive producers, in addition to the two creators and the protagonist Jeremy Renner, there are also Antoine Fuqua, who recently directed the film Infinite with Mark Wahlberg and Dylan O’Brien, David Glasser, Ronald Burkle, Bob Yan and Michael Friedman.
The story takes place in Kingstown, Michigan, where seven prisons stand within a ten-mile radius. The protagonist is Mike McLusky, whose family works in the penitentiary business. His job is to act as intermediaries between inmates, their families, law enforcement and the leaders of various warring groups within prisons.
Over the course of the first season, the story takes hold slowly and then ends with a shocking revolt that promises to revolutionize the lives of all those involved. Season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown will therefore have to face the consequences of this situation, plus it will hopefully give answers to the many questions related to the characters’ stories. We stay
Mayor of Kingstown Season 2: Do We Have A Release Date?
Mayor of Kingstown has not yet been renewed for Season 2, however that status might change at any moment. It looks like a second season of “Mayor of Kingstown” is in the works, according to the newspaper Production Weekly (via The Cinemaholic). The news, however, should be taken with a grain of salt until an official statement has been issued.
A successful sophomore campaign also looks to be heavily dependent on Sheridan. In February 2021, he signed a five-year contract with ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment (via The Hollywood Reporter). A straight-to-series order for the “Yellowstone” prequel “1883” was included in Sheridan’s contract, which guarantees five seasons of new or returning projects for ViacomCBS properties each year. Sheridan’s purported nine-figure agreement also included the title of “Mayor of Kingstown,” according to a source.
Sylvester Stallone will play as a NYC mobster who takes over the organization’s western area in Sheridan’s “Kansas City,” which will begin production in March. Relinquishing a little of his creative authority, the multihyphenate creative tends to only ever work on one season at a time. His other projects include “Lioness,” which is about a female CIA agent and “Land Man,” which is about an oil boom in West Texas (via Deadline).
In spite of the fact that “Yellowstone” hasn’t been formally renewed for a fifth season, Deadline stated that filming will begin in May, and the outlet also utilises phrasing that suggests that second seasons for “1883” and “Mayor of Kingstown” are almost inevitable. “Mayor of Kingstown” has an audience approval rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, despite the fact that it was a critical failure (32 percent approval among critics). According to Variety, 2.6 million people tuned in for the show’s premiere. If it gets renewed, new episodes of “Mayor of Kingstown” might air as early as 2023, with production beginning as early as the end of the summer or the beginning of the fall of 2022.
Mayor of Kingstown Season 2: Who’s In The Cast?
In the cast of season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown, we will find Jeremy Renner as the protagonist Mike McLusky. It will not be so, however, for Kyle Chandler and his Di Lui Mitch McLusky, who lost his life at the beginning of the debut chapter. We may also see the following actors with their respective characters again, although that’s still to be seen:
- Dianne Wiest as Miriam McLusky
- Hugh Dillon as Ian
- Tobi Bamtefa as Bunny
- Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky
- Nichole Galicia as Rebecca
- Emma Laird as Iris
- Derek Webster as Stevie
- Hamish Allan-Headley as Robert
- Pha’rez Lass as P-Dog
- Aidan Gillen as Milo Sunter
The cast of the second season may also welcome some new entrants. The Mayor of Kingstown TV series is a production of 101 Studios, Bosque Ranch Productions and MTV Entertainment Studios.
Mayor Of Kingstown Season 2: How Many Episodes Are There?
The TV series presented itself to the public with a first chapter of 10 episodes in total, lasting about 50 minutes each. As you may have read, as of today we still don’t have the certainty that a season 2 for Mayor of Kingstown will follow, but if it is, we should always be around this number.
What is the plot of Mayor of Kingstown Season 2?
On the first season of “Mayor of Kingstown,” the backstories of the main characters are more implied than told. Early on, Mike and Mitch say they’re “advocates for prisoners,” but this idea quickly goes away as Mike has to deal with a lot of ongoing feuds.
How did the McLusky family become so powerful and influential, and how did they do it? How did Mike and Milo Sunter (Aidan Gillen) get to know each other in the past? It’s hard to believe that Mike has unrestricted access to crime scenes. Miriam doesn’t keep in touch with her oldest sons because of their jobs. How can Mike get away with killing a house full of criminal bikers and not face any consequences? How does the town come to terms with the bloody aftermath of the prison uprising, and how is Mike to blame? These are things that Season 2 needs to talk about, not just fights between people who have power and people who don’t have power.
“Yellowstone” gives people a lot of reasons to do horrible things: family, land, legacy, and loyalty. But, in this Taylor Sheridan-style show, “Mayor of Kingstown” characters don’t talk about why they do what they do. I think Sheridan has planted the seeds for storey lines that will come to fruition in the future, but viewers will have to wait and see how they grow and become more interesting.
