Warner Bros. has confirmed that Joker 2 will be released in theaters on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after the first film.

The studio confirmed the August 2022 release date, along with a schedule of other DC features including The Batman, The Flash, and Aquaman 2. Joker 2 will be the first film created under the DC Black Label, a division of DC Studios dedicated to darker and more experimental stories inspired by the DC Black Label comics imprint.

After Phillips and Phoenix agreed to return for the sequel, production on Joker 2 began in December 2022. The production wrapped in April 2023 in Los Angeles, New York, and Cedar Grove, New Jersey.

Phillips confirmed the finish of production on Instagram, where he uploaded photos of Phoenix and Gaga and congratulated the cast and crew. He also disclosed the film’s official title, Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates to “shared madness” in French and refers to a psychiatric illness in which two people suffer the same delusions.

Joker 2 Plot and Cast Details

Joker 2 will continue the tale of Arthur Fleck, a mentally ill and impoverished clown who turned violent and nihilistic after experiencing rejection and abuse from society. The plot revolves around his friendship with Harley Quinn, a psychiatrist who gets captivated by him and joins him in his insanity.

Musical aspects will also be included in the film, as the Joker and Harley express their warped love through songs and dances. Phoenix will reprise his role as the Joker, and Zazie Beetz will play Arthur’s old neighbor and love interest, Sophie Dumond.

Gaga will make her debut as Harley Quinn, singing fresh songs composed by Hildur Gunadóttir, who won an Oscar for her score for the previous film. Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey will also appear in unspecified roles.
