As a “burgeoning pop star,” Grande “frequently” missed filming to “go sing at award shows, record new songs, and do publicity for her next album,” all while McCurdy had to “angrily hold down the fort,” according to McCurdy’s autobiography.
McCurdy adds that while she “understands” why Grande left work, she does not get why the singer was “allowed to,” in large part because she did not have the same privilege.
McCurdy says of the first Nickelodeon show she appeared on, “I booked two features during iCarly that I had to turn down because the iCarly staff wouldn’t write me out of episodes to go shoot them.”
According to McCurdy, Grande initially skipped irregular days of filming but later learned that her co-star would be away for an entire week.
“The week I was informed that Ariana would not be there at all and that her character would be imprisoned in this episode to make up for her absence. Do you. Just kidding, “McCurdy is a writer. “Therefore, I must decline movies while Ariana is busy crooning at the Billboard Music Awards. F**k. This.”
McCurdy began to “resent being a good sport,” which she had previously been lauded for.
“I wouldn’t be in this situation if I wasn’t such a good sport in the first place. With this sh**ty hairstyle and these sh**ty lines, I wouldn’t be appearing on this sh**ty show “She composes. “Maybe everything in my life would be different right now. I imagine it being different in my dreams. But nothing has changed. This is it. That’s the way it is. While I perform my act with a box, Ariana misses work to pursue her singing career. It has made me furious. And I’m furious with her. envy for her.”
The first reason McCurdy had for being envious of Grande was that, in her opinion, Grande had “a much smoother upbringing.”
McCurdy writes, “I grew up in Garbage Grove in a goddamned hoarder house with a diseased mother who grieved continuously over not being able to afford rent and utility bills. “Ariana grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, a remarkably wealthy and picturesque place, with a healthy mother who could buy her whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted — Gucci bags, opulent trips, Chanel clothing.”
Resentment for the former actress was also sparked by the mere fact that Grande was a co-star in McCurdy.
I believed it would be just that—my own show—when I first signed a development agreement with Nickelodeon for my own show a few years ago, McCurdy writes. “This was meant to be the horrific story of brassy former juvenile offender turned school counselor Just Puckett. Sam & Cat is a half-baked two-hander that centers on a brassy young offender who launches a babysitting service with her “ditzy best buddy” named “Sam & Cat’s Super Rockin’ Fun-Time Babysitting Service.” This is not gruesome.”
Due to Grande’s flourishing career and McCurdy’s stalled one, jealousy also surfaced.
“At this point in her career, Ariana may be found on every 30 Under 30 list that is published. My team is thrilled that I’m the new face of Rebecca Bonbon, a tween clothing line that has a cat with her tongue protruding, at this point in my career. only available at Walmart, “McCurdy is a writer. “And I frequently make the error of equating my professional success with Ariana’s. I’m compelled to. She and I are frequently in the same setting, and she doesn’t exactly try to disguise her accomplishments.”
But none of that was enough to push McCurdy over the edge. When Arianna “came whistle-toning in with enthusiasm because she had spent the previous evening playing charades at Tom Hanks’s house,” that is when she “finally untied” herself.
McCurdy says, “That was the moment I broke.” “I was at my wits’ end. Whatever, I’ll get over magazine covers and musical performances. But a family game at the residence of Tom Hanks, star of National Treasure and a two-time Academy Award winner and six-time nominee? I’m through.”
From that point forward, McCurdy claims: “I wasn’t a fan of her. I was unable to like her.”
“success as a pop star I could manage, but hanging around with Forrest F**king Gump and Sheriff Woody? This has crossed a line “She composes. “She now perceives every absence from work as a personal slight. I feel cheated out of enjoying that feeling every time anything wonderful occurs to her.”
