House Of The Dragon Gets HBO Premiere Date, Everything You Need To Know!

It has been confirmed that House of the Dragon will be released in August of this year, which is the first time this has been confirmed.

It also released a first-look trailer for the Game of Thrones prequel earlier this year, which revealed the show’s overall look and feel, including the use of an entirely different design for the iconic Iron Throne.

Aside from introducing us to more of the series’ action (in tournament and dual forms), the trailer also introduces us to key characters such as Matt Smith’s Prince Daemon Targaryen and Olivia Cooke’s Alicent Hightower. The trailer ends with hints of a conflagration for House Targaryen.

However, if you were hoping to see characters from the original series again, you’ll be disappointed because House of the Dragon will take place approximately 200 years earlier, eliminating the possibility of surprise cameos. Unless, of course, the Night King decides to pay a visit.

One familiar face will be returning, however: Ramin Djawadi, the songwriter who wrote the legendary theme song for the fantasy drama, for which he was awarded two Emmys, as well as regular Thrones director Sapochnik, who will both be returning.

A number of fresh faces have recently been confirmed to be joining the cast, including Australian actor Ryan Corr, who will appear in the film.

Everything you need to know about the House of the Dragon is right here.

House Of The Dragon Gets HBO Premiere Date

This summer, the series will bring a blaze of passion to the small screen.

The dragon’s sons and daughters will be introduced on HBO in August, giving Game of Thrones fans the opportunity to root for — or against — House Targaryen once more. The HBO series House of the Dragon will premiere on August 21st on HBO and HBO Max, the network announced on Wednesday.

It’s the first spinoff series to premiere on HBO since Game of Thrones came to an end after a wildly successful run in 2019. The show, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel, will transport viewers approximately 200 years before Game of Thrones to a time when the Targaryen bloodline ruled Westeros. The ancient dragon rider clan takes center stage in this epic tale of power, rivalry, prestige, and the mystical stone known as Dragonstone. HBO released the first trailer for the series in October 2021, igniting fan anticipation for more fire and epic mediaeval battles to come.

Paddy Considine portrays King Viserys Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy portrays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith portrays Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke portrays Alicent Hightower, and Steve Toussaint portrays Lord Corlys Velaryon in the HBO series House of the Dragon.

Martin previously expressed his excitement for the upcoming series in a blog post, in which he wrote, “I’m really looking forward to it.” “And, yes, I am a fan of it as well. When it comes to taking names, Ryan and Miguel and their team do not hold back.”

Season 1 of House of Dragon consists of ten episodes and is directed by Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, who are also showrunners. Viewers should be prepared to learn who is a member of the Targaryen family’s fantastical dragon dynasty, in addition to meeting the human members of the Targaryen family, as well as their allies and enemies. To pass the time until the season premieres in August, you can watch all previous episodes of Game of Thrones on HBO Max.

Who’s in the cast of House Of The Dragon?

According to Entertainment Weekly, the House of Dragon cast will be led by Paddy Considine, who will portray King Viserys in the film. His selection to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council of Harrenhal is described as “being chosen by the lords of Westeros,” according to the book. Viserys is a warm, kind, and decent man who only wishes to carry on his grandfather’s legacy in the best possible way. Good men, on the other hand, do not necessarily make for great kings.”

The following are the other significant House of the Dragon cast members:

  • Alicent Hightower is played by Olivia Cooke.
  • Matt Smith portrays Prince Daemon Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones.
  • Emma D’Arcy portrays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones.
  • Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as “The Sea Snake,” is played by Steve Toussaint.
  • Princess Rhaenys Velaryon is played by Eve Best.
  • Otto Hightower is played by Rhys Ifans.
  • Mysaria is played by Sonoya Mizuno.
  • Ser Criston Cole is played by Fabien Frankel.

House Of The Dragon Plot

The events of Game of Thrones take place several hundred years before those of House of the Dragon. It is based on George R. R. Martin’s novel “Fire and Blood,” which chronicles the rule of House Targaryen from its inception to its conclusion. The story begins with Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, which marks the beginning of the series.

When it comes to the Targaryens, House of the Dragon will focus on a specific period in their history: The Dance of Dragons. The Targaryen civil war was a bloody and brutal conflict that took place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones took place. In other words, it’s a little more than a century after Aegon I conquered Europe.

It has been revealed by star Olivia Cooke that House of the Dragon will not feature the gratuitous graphic violence against women that was prevalent on Game of Thrones. ‘I wouldn’t feel comfortable being a part of anything that has just outrageous graphic violence against women for no reason whatsoever, just because they want it to be tantalizing in a way that draws viewers,’ she told The Telegraph.

The death of King Viserys I sparks a struggle for the throne between his daughter of his first getting married, Princess Rhaenyra, and his child from his second wife, Aegon II, as the king’s successor. This incident was recounted by Princess Shireen Baratheon in a Game of Thrones episode from the fifth season.

“Brothers fought brothers, and dragons fought dragons,” she reminded her father, Stannis, of the battles that had taken place. “Tens of thousands of people had died by the time it was over.”

As Shireen pointed out, the conflict took a toll on the Targaryens, as nearly all of their dragons perished as a result of the conflict. It was nearly 150 years before Daenerys Targaryen brought her three dragons into the world in the HBO series Game of Thrones when the beasts were declared extinct.
