Good Girls Season 4 Ending Explained: 5 Big Questions We Still Need Answered

After its February 2018 launch, the NBC crime drama Good Girls gained a devoted following; however, the show was cancelled in 2021 after four seasons on the network. The show stars Christina Hendricks, Retta, and Mae Whitman as three Michigan women who conspire to rob a supermarket in order to get money for their families. Because of the theft, the three of them develop a taste for petty crime and their lives are irrevocably altered as a result.

A new generation of viewers has discovered the show since its final season premiered last week on Netflix (after the streaming service declined to renew the show for a fifth season). As viewers wind down their viewing experience, many are asking what the series finale of Good Girls means.

What Happened To Annie

Mick appeared at Beth’s house in the second hour of the two-part series finale, allegedly intending to kill her for turning on Nick and forcing him to seek retribution from behind bars. The fact that Mick missed her, leaving her with only a flesh wound and conveniently leaving his pistol where evidence could be recovered, appeared to be an extremely fortunate break.

There were no lucky breaks or convenient turns in the storey of Good Girls. Instead of having Mick shoot Beth in order to get the police’s attention, Nick had him shoot her in order to hide the gun, which they were able to retrieve and use to identify the person who shot her.

When Beth had every reason to assume her prints were on the gun, why didn’t the police go after her? The “sibling rivalry” exchange between Dave and Phoebe raised more questions than it answered. Without Mae Whitman’s reaction as Annie came to terms with what was happening, I never would have guessed that she was the one in danger, given how quickly events were advancing toward their conclusion.

Phoebe: Her prints are all over it.Dave: Sibling rivalry?Phoebe: Way more than that. Not the only time it was used.Dave: Jesus.

That’s how the season ended: Beth on top, Ruby seemingly deciding to support her, and Annie locked up. I’m delighted there are connections to be discovered in Annie’s ending, which on first viewing made the least sense to me. Of course, I’m certain that many Good Girls watchers were aware of what had transpired right away. It’s unfortunate that Good Girls was cancelled, especially since the show’s unlikely that it will return. Regardless, I believe that many of us can agree on one thing: whether we understood why Annie was jailed or not.

The first three seasons of Good Girls are currently available to stream on Netflix, and the final episodes of Season 4 will be available to stream on Hulu in the coming weeks.
