Elaine A. Zane was born in New York City in 1948. She grew up in a movie-loving family and had an early interest in storytelling and cinema. She attended the prestigious Dalton School before graduating from Barnard College with a degree in English literature.  She also studied film at Columbia and New York University.

Elaine A. Zane began her career as a screenplay reader and editor for numerous studios and production businesses. She quickly moved on to producing and casting, collaborating on shows including The X-Files, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and The Good Wife.

The cast and crew of Suits lamented her death and paid tribute in a variety of ways. Gabriel Macht, who portrayed Harvey Spectre on the program, suggested naming a character after her, which the writers approved. Rachael Harris plays Elaine Zane, a new lawyer introduced in Season 6, Episode 11. The character was regarded as a clever and tenacious lawyer who was also polite and caring.

The show also dedicated an episode to Elaine A Zane’s memory in season 6, episode 16. The broadcast concluded with the words, “In loving memory of our friend and colleague, Elaine A Zane”. Aaron Korsh, the show’s creator, tweeted, “Elaine was a huge part of Suits from day one.” We will all miss her because she was an incredible woman.
