Captain America 4 is set to begin filming next year, and it will feature a surprising MCU return.

Following the announcement of the official title and release date at Comic-Con, additional cast members were confirmed during the D23 Expo. They cast Tim Blake Nelson in the role of The Leader for the first time since The Incredible Hulk.

Captain America: New World Order is the official title of Anthony Mackie’s first solo MCU film, and its May 2024 release date establishes it as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.

The fourth film was revealed in April 2021, shortly after the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Sam Wilson (Mackie) took over the role of Captain America in that series.

Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are creating the script for the film, which will be directed by Julius Onah. But what else do we know about Captain America 4 so far?

Captain America New World Order Release date

Captain America: New World Order will be released in theatres on May 3, 2024, making it the penultimate installment of Phase 5.

Onah told ComicBook.com in September 2022 that filming on the new film would begin in spring 2023. If everything goes as planned, the film should be released in May 2024.

As is customary, the release date could change, but we won’t know if there will be any delays until the film begins filming. But let’s hope not.

Captain America 4 cast: Who plays Captain America in Captain America: New World Order?

Unsurprisingly, Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, in the new film, but we won’t know for sure until August 2021.

He’ll be accompanied by two recognizable faces from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres (perhaps the new Falcon?) and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley.

As previously stated, Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role as Dr. Samuel Sterns in the film. At the end of The Incredible Hulk, he transformed into The Leader, and he appears to be a deadly rival to Cap.

“A Leader is a man that operates on intelligence, so it’s nice to have an adversary who is working with this incredible brain to really, you know, put Sam through the wringer in this story,” Onah explained to ComicBook.com.

Shira Haas will play Israeli superheroine Sabra, although it’s unknown whether Sebastian Stan will reprise his role as Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier.

Bucky will appear in Thunderbolts, which will be released following Captain America: New World Order. That doesn’t rule out a cameo in the forthcoming Captain America film, but we wouldn’t anticipate it to be a huge one.

Given the crossover cast, it appears it will undoubtedly start up where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier left off, leaving a few storylines hanging.

There’s Sharon Carter’s nasty turn, Zemo still alive in prison, and Falcon-now-emotional Cap’s confrontation with what it means to wear the stars-and-stripes outfit as a Black man.

We don’t know who the ultimate enemy will be, what city will be destroyed, or whether any multiverse lunacy will be involved. But we’re confident that additional information will be forthcoming in due course.

Marvel producer Nate Moore suggested a “fascinating” journey for Cap in the forthcoming film in November 2021. “I don’t think he’s Steve Rogers, and that’s a good thing.” “Because this new Cap reminds me of Rocky,” he explained.

“He’ll be the underdog in any situation.” He’s not a superhero. He is not a century old. He does not have access to the Avengers. What happens next with this individual who declares openly, without backing, “I’m the next Captain America?”

“He’s a man with wings and a shield, but he’s still a man.” So we’re going to put him through his paces, make him earn it, and see what happens when he’s overweight, outclassed, out-everything.”

Onah also revealed to ComicBook.com that the next film will revolve around Sam Wilson learning how to be a leader.

“A large part of his journey in this novel is defining leadership.” That is something he hasn’t had to deal with yet. He was always there to help the rest of the team as the Falcon, but now he’s the man in charge,” he continued.
