The boys have returned to town. In March 2022, Amazon released the first look at The Boys season 3, which may leave fans with more questions than answers.
Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) looks into the mirror and appears to shoot rays of heat out of his face. That’s a little unsettling for a guy whose life mission has been to kill superheroes.
The Amazon Prime Video series follows a group of troubled superheroes, who are essentially influencers with superhuman abilities to murder a large number of people. The Boys are a vigilante group who work to expose superhero group The Seven and their parent corporation, Vought, as the evil warlords that they are.
The Boys Confirmed Release Date Out
The Boys team does not keep fans fully informed of all developments – on January 7, it was confirmed that the official release date for season three is June 3, 2022.
Filming for the third installment began on February 24, 2021, and the gang officially wrapped for the third season on September 17, 2021.
Unlike most streaming services, The Boys changed plans between seasons one and two, and instead of releasing them all at once, they came out weekly.
The same thing is expected to happen with the new episodes, with the gap between the end of filming and release likely due to the need for extensive special effects.

The Boys Season 3 Cast
The conclusion of The Boys season 2 means that the cast of The Boys season 3 has been reshuffled.
Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie (Jack Quaid), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are all back, and Homelander (Antony Starr), Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Starlight (Eriarty), A-Train (Jessie Usher), and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) round out the Supe. The Deep (Chace Crawford) is also still around. Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) returns as well.
Outside of that, Claudia Doumit’s Congresswoman Victoria Neuman is the most well-known name. She’s clearly going to be a major focus of season three after being revealed to be behind the head-exploding attacks. She and Colby Minifie (Vought PR Ashley) have been promoted to series regulars, according to Deadline.
Speaking of head explosions, Cindy, an escape Sage Grove patient, is now on the run and “as dangerous as ever.” She’ll almost certainly appear in season 3 of The Boys.
Soldier Boy, a Supe who is essentially a twisted version of Captain America, is one confirmed new addition to the cast. Jensen Ackles, from Supernatural, will play him.
According to Eric Kripke, the character will be “the very first Superhero, bringing so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role.” Kripke also revealed to TV Guide that Soldier Boy has an unexpected tie to Stormfront. Ackles also shared a photo of his new hairstyle, presumably while in quarantine for filming on The Boys – if this is for the show, it’s a style change for Soldier Boy, who in the comics has shorter hair and is clean-shaven. The character’s first official images show a slightly less unkempt Ackles, with shorter hair and a beard. He’s also dressed in full costume, and you can see his shield. Check out the images below, as well as the first look at Blue Hawk.
The Boys Plot
The season two finale is a true game-changer, altering the course of the entire show going forward. Homelander is still alive and well in Vought Tower, despite the fact that the Boys are no longer hiding. He had his own sticky ending, so don’t be surprised if Queen Maeve’s blackmailing scheme backfires at some point in season three.
“[Season three] is my favorite season,” Starr told TVLine, adding, “[It’s] hands down one of the most enjoyable seasons of television I’ve had the good fortune to be involved with.”
All I can say is that I truly believe the fans will go crazy for season three… the payoff will be well worth the wait.”
“I had a great time on season two, and I thought we did something really cool there in many ways where we took it next-level from season one, and really, it’s just the extension of that.”
“I’m always curious to see what the writers, these crazy people, will cook up, and it’s a pretty great feeling in season three to still be surprised and excited every time you turn a page in the material,” he added.
All I can say is that I truly believe the fans will go crazy for season three.”
The most significant change, however, comes in the form of the final twist. Is Congresswoman Victoria Neuman supporting or opposing Vought? Perhaps she’s playing all sides in an attempt to profit from the inevitable chaos.
Doumit revealed her thoughts on Victoria Neuman’s trajectory in season three to GamesRadar, saying: “I’m looking forward to learning more about her background and how she got to where she is. Also, I can’t wait to see her f**k some shit up and blow some heads up.”
