Universal, Will Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith are just working on rebooting the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but it’s not a comedy. Here’s everything we know about this new project.
Bel-Air: What Is The Plot?
You read that right. In the projects of Universal and the Smith spouses, we find a new version of the beloved sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The news was reported by Deadline in mid-August 2020. They allso added that in all probability, a real war would be unleashed on the last offer to grab the project, designed for streaming.
Several services had already put their commitment to the realization of an entire season on the plate. In the end, it was Peacock who won, even ordering two chapters for the reboot. Will Smith himself broke the news.
As mentioned initially, this TV series will not be a sitcom, like the original, but it will be dramatic. The idea comes from Morgan Cooper, who in 2019 made a fan-made trailer that went viral, from which the new project starts. Together with Chris Collins ( The Man in the High Castle, The Wire ), he will write the screenplay and be in charge of directing.
The reboot of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is only titled Bel-Air and is presented as a dramatic reinterpretation of the original series. According to the first advances, the plot will always revolve around the young Will and what led him to leave the streets of Philadelphia for the possibility of a better life in Bel-Air.
The show aims to deepen the conflicts, emotions, prejudices, and what it means to be a black man in America today while trying not to leave some nice homage to the original series.
