Geena Davis is willing to return to the afterlife.
In Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice, the Oscar winner, 66, and Alec Baldwin played a lovable but dead married couple. Rumors of a sequel have been circulating for years; in February, it was revealed that Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B had boarded a second ghoulish installment.
Davis tells PEOPLE that she has yet to be contacted about returning for the sequel, but she “would of course like to revisit” that world.
Davis says, “I want to play every character I’ve ever played again.”
There is one problem with revisiting her character of Barbara Maitland: she, like her husband, Adam, is a ghost (Baldwin). “I’m pretty sure ghosts don’t age,” she says. “How will they explain the fact that they’re older?”
Burton’s wild comedy also starred Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Glenn Shadix as a malicious spirit named Beetlejuice (Keaton) who helps a recently deceased couple drive out an unbearable family who moved into their home.
The film was adapted into a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, which will close in January.
In her upcoming memoir, Dying of Politeness: A Memoir, Davis discusses the making of Beetlejuice as well as her entire career.
Dying of Politeness, which will be released on October 11, also discusses the formation of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Davis recently received the Governor’s Award from the Television Academy for her work with the foundation, which she founded in 2004, “in recognition of their efforts to promote gender balance and foster inclusion throughout the entertainment industry.”

Brad Pitt’s production company is currently in charge of Beetlejuice 2
A sequel to Beetlejuice has been in the works for quite some time, with Burton starting work on it as early as 1990 with Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Since then, the project has been put on hold several times, with Beetlejuice 2 now in the hands of Hollywood legend Brad Pitt and his production company Plan B Entertainment.
According to reports, Pitt is just as excited to see Beetlejuice 2 as everyone else, with the sequel being announced in February. While little has been revealed since, it has been reported that Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will reprise their roles as Betelgeuse and Lydia Deetz, respectively, with principal photography set to begin this year.
Long-time Tim Burton collaborator Johnny Depp is also rumored to have a role in Beetlejuice 2, though the nature of that role is unknown at this time.
For the time being, Tim Burton is preoccupied with bringing his version of The Addams Family to life on Netflix with the Wednesday sequel series. Wednesday follows the beloved member of The Addams Family, Wednesday Addams, as she explores her years as a high school student at Nevermore Academy, starring Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Fred Armisen, and Gwendoline Christie.
Wednesday will debut on Netflix on November 23, 2022.
