Aquaman 1 Summary
Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to Atlantis’ underwater kingdom, embarks on a quest to avert a war between the ocean and land worlds.
In the film Atlantis, the young man Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) finds out that he is only half-human, with the other half of his blood coming from Atlantean ancestors, making him the rightful heir to the throne of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, which he inherits from his father.
However, Arthur discovers that Atlantis is ruled by his evil half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson), who wishes to unite the seven underwater kingdoms and wage war on the surface.
It is up to Arthur to discover the full potential of his true destiny and become Aquaman with the help of Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe) and the beautiful Mera (Amber Heard) in order to save Atlantis and the surface from Orm’s evil plot.
Aquaman Reviews and Ratings
Aquaman rating on IMDB is 6.8/10.
The entire film felt loud, relentless, and interminable. There was ugly writing and embarrassing acting, and it was exhausting to watch Amber Heard attempt to deliver this awful speech with no intonation. Why does half of Atlantis’s people sound like Californians? The dialogue was never anything more than hackneyed, and the plot was predictable.
The cliche of the “advanced ancient civilization hidden from the rest of the world” is not new. Due to the abundance of CGI, none of the action ever seemed stunning, tense, or authentic. I wanted to chuckle every time someone uttered “Ocean Master” with a straight face.
This would have been the ideal film to not take itself too seriously and instead adopt a lighter and irreverent tone a la Thor Ragnarok, but they just try too hard. It lacks the heroic sparkle that Marvel manages to transfer from the comics, and as a result, it’s one very long and tedious trudge.
How many scenarios did we require in which a peaceful moment was disrupted by a bursting wall that caused no harm? Three or four, I counted. Additionally, give me a break with the forced romance – “Wow, there was a surprise and now we’re accidentally holding hands,” “Wow, there was an explosion or something and I grabbed you.” And whoever composed the film’s soundtrack should be summarily executed.
