Anne With An E Season 4: Is it Officially Cancelled? Everything We Know So Far

For its first season in Canada, Anne with an E (formerly titled Anne) was a Canadian television series partly based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 1908 classic work of children’s literature, Anne of Green Gables. The programme is currently in its third season. It was written and directed by Moira Walley-Beckett for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and it stars Amybeth McNulty as orphan Anne Shirley, Geraldine James as Marilla Cuthbert, R. H. Thomson as Matthew Cuthbert, Dalila Bela as Diana Barry, and Lucas Jade Zumann as Gilbert Blythe among others.

CBC broadcasted the series’ premiere on March 19, 2017, and Netflix broadcasted it internationally on May 12, 2017. In August 2017, it was renewed for a second season, and in August 2018, it was renewed for a third season. The series was terminated shortly after the third season was released in 2019, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Netflix.

After receiving strong critical reception, Anne with an E won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Dramatic Series in both 2017 and 2018. It addresses a variety of themes, including orphaning, child abandonment, psychological trauma as well as societal concerns such as conformity, gender inequality and racism as well as religious issues such as homosexuality, bullying, and freedom of expression.

Anne with an E season 4 release date: When will it air?

It’s a bleak outlook, to say the least.

On November 25, the show’s third and final season was revealed.

In a joint statement, Netflix and CBC announced that they had been “thrilled” to deliver “the very Canadian narrative of Anne With an E to fans across the world.”

To the outstanding cast and crew, as well as producers Moira Walley-Beckett and Miranda de Pencier, we owe a debt of gratitude for bringing Anne’s storey to a new audience.

For those who have followed Anne’s storey, we hope that this final season will bring a satisfactory conclusion to her journey.”

Also on Instagram, Walley-Beckett expressed her disappointment

Netflix and CBC made some tragic announcements today. I’m sorry to all the #AWAE fans and friends out there.

This cannot be different, as much as I’d like it to. After three great seasons, we’ve come to the end of the red Green Gables road.

This is a difficult time for me, but I’m so proud of the team that worked so hard to make my vision for #annewithane a reality: the cast, crew, writers, and directors.”

Thank you for the opportunity to share this tale with all of you, my kindred spirits. I am grateful and humbled by the experience. As a fan of the series, I’m sure you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have, and I’m grateful for that.

However, she did mention that she’s

If she were to write the final instalment of the AWAE series, Walley-Beckett claimed she would.

If other networks decide to air cancelled shows, like Netflix and Pop TV have done in the past with “more…stories to share” and “designated survivor,” is it possible that we’ll see more of Anne in the future?

Synopsis of Anne With An E Season

It is in the year 1896 that Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, two elderly siblings who have never married, adopt an orphan child to help with their ancestral farm in Avonlea, Prince Edward Island, Canada. A 13-year-old girl named Anne Shirley instead of the child Matthew went to pick up at the train station. She is extremely outgoing and creative. Her parents died when she was just months old and she spent most of her early life as a servant in numerous families until being taken into an orphanage.

Matthew wants her to stay, but Marilla doesn’t because she doesn’t know her and she thinks a young girl is of little use. When Marilla is unable to locate a brooch, her suspicions about Anne seem to be verified. The Cuthberts evict her, thereby returning her to the orphanage. It’s not until she gets back to the orphanage that she realises she’s been bullied and returns to the train station. Despite the fact that Marilla believes Anne is a criminal, she discovers the brooch was misplaced rather than stolen. As a result, Matthew is able to track down Anne and persuade her to return to Green Gables, where she is welcomed as a family member. Although Anne continues to be bullied by children at Avonlea School and discriminated against on the basis of her class by Diana’s parents and others in the town, this is not the end of her troubles. Anne returns to Avonlea and uses her survival strategies of intelligence, problem-solving ability, and imagination to seek acceptance from the rest of the town.
