Sultan and Fayed’s denied the allegations.
A series of lawsuits and investigations followed, including a report by the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry that found “the applicants had dishonestly misrepresented their origins, their wealth, their business interests and their resources to the Secretary of State, the Office of Fair Trading, the press, the HOF Board and HOF shareholders and their own advisers” in their bid to buy House of Fraser.
