A few weeks ago, Netflix released the trailer for their upcoming documentary, Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist. It tells the story of Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend, who catfished him all through college. Te’o was a star linebacker at Notre Dame and a Heisman finalist.
Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, who was pretending to be a woman the whole time, turned out to be a guy. Seeing the whole thing broken down and hearing both Te’o and Tuiasosopo’s sides of the story was, of course, very strange and interesting.
Still, it leaves so many questions. How could a college football player who was the face of the sport at the time fall in love with a girl on Facebook whom he had never met? I mean, come on, bro. Every day at Notre Dame, you’re surrounded by thousands of women, and you choose this path? I still find it hard to believe.
When the story first came out in 2013, people had a lot of ideas about what was going on. Some people said he used his “girlfriend’s death” to get Heisman votes, and some even said he was hiding the fact that he was gay since the person who catfished him was a guy.
But To is not gay. He is married to Jovi Nicole and they have been together since 2020. Now that we’ve covered that, let’s look at who Te’o’s wife is. In 2016, when they started posting together on social media, the two started dating. The New York Post says that Jovi Nicole calls herself a “fitness enthusiast” and is studying to become a nurse.
They got engaged in February 2020 and got married in August of that year. In 2021, they found out they were going to have their first child. In August of that year, a girl they named Hiro was born.
Needless to say, it looks like Te’o has put the past behind him and moved on to bigger and better things. After playing for the Chargers, Saints, and Bears, he is now a free agent in the NFL and has started his own family.
And now they are expecting a baby boy!
